Fios Vs. Optimum

I got rid of my Home phone saving $20 per Month, I use the Verizon 1G plan and use Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime & Disney Plus as my providers , Hulu to me is great, Although they now went up to $64 per month, I pay $74 per Month for the 1G
My home phone is $10/mo with optimum. As I recall (may have changed) they had some stupid marketing scheme where internet and cable w/o the phone cost more than if you include the phone in the package. The phone is actually useful in the cases where people who I haven't communicated with for years and/or those that don't have my cell, can look me up and call me. Also I like that 911 is tied to my home address. My grand total per month is $110 for all 3.

Same here Genius $10 for phone. It will be more if I got rid of it.I am paying like $170 for all 3 . Two boxes but I have Cute package to get YES network. No dvr. Called yesterday and they told me that was a great price for what I have? Really? Glad THEY think so

Pretty close to moving into a downstairs apartment in a house. Landlord upstairs has Verizon. Would I be able to keep my optimum( that I have now at my current place)? Guess my question is can there be 2 different cable providers in same house? Landlord wasn't sure.

I had Verizon a few years back. I switched from Optimum when I called Optimum to try and negotiate down a 30% (I think - was long time ago) increase and they told me to go pound sand. Then at end of Verizon contract, they wanted a 50% increase (I think - was long time ago) and when I called to negotiate they told me to go pound sand. So I switched to Optimum. They just had to drop off a cable box as all wiring was there from years before. Verizon left the cable from the pole and the fiber to cable box all connected in my basement and they sent me a shipping carton to mail back the DVR box. Time spent on the phone 10 minutes each vendor.

Last year Optimum hit me with a 20% (I think ) increase. Just so happened Verizon came to my front door and explained how since all they had to do was enable the fiber to cable box and give me a DVR box they could give me a rate below the pre-increase optimum rate.

I called Optimum and told them I was cancelling. They offered to not increase my rate. I told them that unless they dropped even that rate by 30% that they could go pound sand (I pulled the 30% out of the sky as I really have been getting tired of pulling this crap every year). They said - can't do that and the best they could do was 10% below so I told them to go pound sand and disconnect next week. They said how about we give you 20%. Go pound sand. Ok we can do the 30%. Time spent on the phone 10 minutes.

So now I have an inactive setup (fiber to cable interface box and the cable to pole) for Verizon and an active setup for optimum (a parallel cable to the pole).

To make a long story short - I don't see why I couldn't have both services active.

As an aside, Newsday sent me a letter last Jan increasing my monthly rate from $38 to $45. I called them up and told them that their paper had shrunk so much that it wasn't even worth the pre-increase rate and I'll just get my news from online, the WSJ and a local weekly. So they offered me $35/month. Go pound sand. To make a long story short, I now pay $15/4weeks. Time spent on the phone 10 minutes.

To sum up: I now have more money to help out needy AMP and escort girls (just the kind of charitable guy I am).

I'm sure you can have both providers at the same address, as long as both are available at the address. I'm saying if they are in two different names could be an issue.

They do in fact have News12. I'm watching it now channel 529.
I just chatted with Verizon as I am have optimum and am really getting tired of having my internet drop out 10X per day.
In the past they said I couldn't keep my landline # - now they said I can
So I asked if they have NEWS12 and the guy said no.
What gives?

It’s channel 529 on Fios. I’m watching it right now. The guy who told you they don’t is an idiot.

No offense to Fios lovers, but I will have nothing to do with Verizon EVER again.. I cancelled all my services with them 6 months ago and continued to receive bills ( due to a IT issue). It took a formal complaint to the FTC and Verizon Executive offices to resolve.

I will never do business with them

Just an FYI, I had the same problem recently with Optimum and internet dropping several times a day, but TV was always fine. Rebooting both cable modem and router would fix it for an hour or two. Went to their office in Bethpage and exchanged both the cable modem and router. Problem was resolved by replacing both items.

I also am ready to switch. With kids home doing schoolwork it’s annoying as hell to have internet just stop working for no reason throughout the day. I have reset and unplugged everything. I also went to office and switched modem and router, still have it go out for no reason at all. And then my modem/router will have orange light flashing for whatever reason instead of all green. And optimum customer service is horrendous. If you can get through to someone they are no help. And my triple play package has gone from 140 to 220 in the last 4 years. Neighbors switched to Verizon and they haven’t complained. As much as the wife and kids complain about internet I know they will miss the live tv so I feel stuck. I could pay for Verizon internet and optimum cable but it’ll either be same as I paying now or maybe a little more especially if I get the gb Verizon plan. It really sucks to only have like 1 1/2 companies to choose from. They have you by the balls a little and not in the good way.
