2019 Mets

Tough loss last night for the Metro's. DeGrom was an absolute beast, watching him attack the strike zone last night was really unbelievable. He attacked hitter after hitter after hitter. That staff could be so insanely good when it wants.

Two great starts down the drain. This is not how you win a wild card berth. So many missed scoring opportunities this weekend. The Braves showed why they are a winning team. Credit their GM for some great late season pickups that were key in these games.

Ouch!
Losers 6 in a row at home!
deGrom can't get it done twice on the homestand.
But, if they can hang in there for a few weeks they have a soft spot on the schedule in mid September.
3 vs Colorado, 3 vs Cincinnati and then 4 vs their punching bag the laugh stock Marlins.
Plus they own the Nationals so actually they could be back in it at the end of this road trip.

How does Scherzer vs deGrom wind up 11-10?
Because of the bullpen.
Scherzer had one bad inning where he gave up all four of his runs.
De Grom gave up only two runs through the seventh before yielding a two-run homer in the eight and then exiting with a 5-4 lead.
Still, that's not a pitching duel score but the 11-10 was an abomination by both bullpens. The Mets pen just sucked more tonight.

You might as well repost this. They choked even worse tonight than they did the whole last two series.
In the post you quoted I was referring to the whole team in general. Last night the rest of the team did its job but the bullpen choked.
But that has been the story all year.
It's a shame because they have a good young core now.

Regarding Stroman, for a guy who publicly kept saying how bad he wanted the spotlight and pitch under the microscope and pressure in New York, during a playoff chase, he has spit the bit for the Metro's. Last night was an important game for them, and he pitched like garbage again.

He has been bad in almost every one of his starts.

Glad he didn't come to the Yankees, because had he, and was pitching like he is for the Mets, the fans would be ALL OVER HIM! Not too mention Monday Morning Quarterbacking the move by Cashman.

Stroman has been a big disappointment. Who cares that he's a homegrown guy. Anthony Kay, who we traded away for Stroman, is from LI also and he had a very good debut Saturday, certainly better than Stroman's outing. Plus, we gave up another prospect in the trade. I don't think he can handle New York pressure. Some guys can't. Look at Jay Bruce, just to name a recent example.

Every Yankee starter except German has had similar tough stretches and the fans haven't cared because, despite the bad outings, they continued to win! Case in point, Tanaka who has been beyond horrible this season against the Red Sox, lasted just four innings last night after the Yanks offense provided six runs for him. The powerful offense and phenomenal bullpen often out shadow the many poor outings by Yankee starters.

The Mets are a .500 team this year and have played that way since their streak.

Let them just tread water until they hit that soft spot in the schedule.
Then they can make another run. They are only four games out. A lot of games left, including 10 easy ones.
