rajah, my experience was quite the opposite, which is why my three bbfs events are so vivid in my mind. i certainly agree that french was spoken directly with the native tongue and no translator was needed. i preferred not to get a bbbjtc and besides it would have taken quite an effort by them to achieve this for me (not the case anymore for me with a person with an advance degree in french). my first bbbjtc was with the girl from philly. as soon as the main event was to take place, on came the protection, which was placed on a cabinet and frequently readied early on. other than getting a peck on the face somewhere or a very short light peck on the lips (very infrequent), kissing was out of the question. i was told that that was reserved for their boyfriends and what distinguished this from their reality.

over the course of ten years or so (late 72 to either mid 82 or 83) i partook in this once a week. i was a streaker, going each and every week for stretches at a time. when i became sad about this type of existence for me, i would take off for a couple of weeks. but i always came back. i probablyt did 40 or so girls each year for ten or eleven years. a few girls i could count on the fingers of one hand, maybe one girl it would take both hands for me to count the number of times. the only exception to this was the girl from philly, who i did excessively. in all that time i was never told about the option to partake in bbfs for an extra price. in the three bbfs events i documented, it was just served up that way without my asking.

VM

I believe that overtures moved from 58th(1/2 a block from where Rosa Mexicano is) to the townhouse is currently occupies on E 48th.
I also read on another board that the owner died about 1.5 years ago. Don't know who owns it now (maybe they did an ESOP).

Though BBFS was standard fair at Overtures, when I started there in mid 70's on swing street,it was more discretionary at other places of similiar quality(eg Susan's on 23rd,which became the basis for the movie Working Girls).
As herpes became prevalent, covered became the default approach at places like these.

VM: very interesting about the 54th location going back to '72, '73. I went many times to a location on the ES that then moved to 54th - and Mick was there before she was at 54th. Perhaps they consolidated? In any case the girls I saw there told me they were moving and then were at W 54th. I also also saw Mick at her location by Park in the 30's.

Tina was an art student at Pratt, I believe, petite, very sexy voice, black hair evntually dyed in village sort of manner, very fun - I saw her at the 58th location many times for bbfs. It was during that time that they began to discourage it. I visited the later ES location only a few times, but Tina was there early on.

"Working Girls"

Wasn't Susan's place on 24th?
Hey I have a copy of "Working Girls" that I got on eBay and was going to sell there again, but who cares. Actually it is a rather depressing film.
Anyone want it?
Rajah & VM I am astounded by your ability to remember this stuff. You even remember what you paid.
I used to go often, at least once a week sometimes twice but I can not remember as clearly as you. When I would fall in "love" with a girl, like Catherine, Diane or Nina I would see the same girl twice in a week. Funny, I had a lot less money then than I do now, but I sure did spend it faster on women then.

Action Newspaper

Remember when the "Action" newspaper came out, and we finally had some other information that was better than the plain ads in Screw.
One of those "Review" newspapers, I think it was Action had a series of articles about the places we are talking about. It might have been someone named Joe Rose that wrote about 3-4 columns and I distinctly remember him spending time on the Catherine / Diane places. Wonder if we can get those articles?

S&M Houses

Anyone have any memories of any S&M houses?
I earlier posted a note about Zorba who had a place at 3rd and 28th.
I remember going to Belle DeJour when she first started out and was located in a hairdressing salon on 12th or 13 near University. Very strange. There weren't really rooms just cubicles with beaded curtains and your could share the experiences of others. I remember spending a lot of time with an incredibly cute and willing sub at that place. Lots of time paddling her but while she was hanging from the ceiling.
I also used to go to see a really powerful Dom named Natasha who had a place on 65th or 66th right off Central Park West. She was older but in great shape, she had been a ballet dancer. You did the scenes in her bedroom that had incredible mirrors all around.
Also an incredibly beautiful Dom named Erica Crouse who had a place in the hotel on 34th and 6th and then on 28th and Lex or 3rd. God I really loved sessions with her. She was brilliant and an hour with her was like a trip to Disneyland.

Yeah.... Susan's was on 24th. I was invited to see opening at theater on 57th off 6th ave and was relieved that I wasn't one of the tricks portrayed in the flick(eg Smelly Abe). Movie was written and directed by Lizzie Borden, who worked there. Should be required viewing for johns in the Romantic/Emotional Involvement School of Whoring. Maybe you can donate it to UG and as a public service,Slink and Allen can run a continous loop of it.

In those days ,you'd have all the johns sitting togehter downstairs waiting for their sessions. Made for some memorable combos of humanity.

Oldtimer2, yeah I remember Action and Joe Rose. They ran an article once that really pissed Catherine off because it was pretty identifiable. One of her collegues in the post-Diane days was a very bright lady named Cindy who rode a motorcyle and parked it in the apartment. The Action article mentioned the motorcycle which made Catherine's place very identifiable.

Action was based out of Philly, I believe. One of Rose's staff seceded and formed his own rival paper.

Pswope (Putney???), can you lead me to the board that reported death of Overtures owner???

ViagraMan, I haven't forgotten but it'll be a few days.

Paulina, who was then the No 1 provider on TBD,posted a note about her death in that time frame. I think it was on the NY board.

more of the pieces are fitting together. it seems like each of us has one piece of the puzzle. if we could locate mick and she was willing, everything would probably become crystal clear. i have the following questions, maybe one of you guys can shed some light on them.

1. to wishbone or others: the location on the east side that moved into the 54th street location between 6th and 7th, do you know the street and cross streets? do you know the exact address or can you locate the building? do you know whether mick was just hanging around or was she a provider at this pre-54th street location? do you know the year or month/season/year? do you know whether the lady i call lynn was the owner of that place? i am reasonable certain at this point that i first met mick at the 54th street location. she was not there from the beginning (72/73). and i am positive that she was not allowed to work except to help with the laundry, cleaning, etc. because she was ********. perhaps they found out and made her stop. after all, the picture of her in playboy had to be when she was 17 or perhaps 16. your thoughts about a merger and acquisition is the only thing that makes sense now. good detective work.

2. to pswope or others: any more details on the death of the owner. can you give us a reference on the internet to it. do you know the month/year? do you know what she died of? i am very curious if it is the one i’ve been calling lynn (even if it is very hazzy that that was her name). did you know her first name? as i said in a previous post she was in the vicinity of 5’3” or 5’4”. i think she was previously a provider. she wore army fatigues and an army hat frequently (fuzzy). had dirty blonde hair, a little past shoulder length. i am sad that if it is her, for i so much wanted to come face to face with her again at the current place after not seeing her for over 20 years. it would put closure on this for me.

3. to oldtimer2, pswope or others; what year or month/year did “working girls” open? do you know when the place susan’s opened or the exact location on 24th? it is only a curiosity to me, since i don’t bbelieve i ever frequented the place. can you shed some light on what year it was opened and/or closed (is it closed?)? you must of been a legend in your own time to get a special invite. i gotta find this movie at blockbuster. oldtimer2 - please hold onto it. do you know what happened to lizzie borden?

4. rajah or others: can’t wait to find out the current location of overtures. i am beginning to have some suspicion that perhaps it is the same location as where they were immediately after they left the 54th street location and immediately before the 58th street location. it’s a plausible theory for me to put out and i will be able to remember if i see it from the outside. i’ve looked back at most all of the posts and i can not find any acknowlegement or mention from any of you of this location. do any of you remember it? rajah stated that he did not in one of his posts. it doesn’t make much sense to me that you all know of the 54th street location and the 58th street location but not the one inbetween.

5. to wishbone: you made reference to an east 60 location. did you mean the place on east 58th?

to all: i feel somewhat obsessed to get this all documented for future generations. after we are gone from this earth, the knowledge would be gone also.

a short wrap-up of just two more places of some notable distinction in the 70’s. one was on, i believe, 51st and perhaps just off third. it was an apartment complex. the place occupied an apartment on the second floor. if i go by again soon, i’ll identify it a bit better. the building was just off the corner. white dirty bricks. always a lot of activity there in terms of guys. the caliber of girls was probably one step down at least compared to the place you call overture but i call lynn’s place. i visited this place perhaps a half-dozen times. the last notable place that had a group of girls that i want to mention gets the award for the best set design. i visited this place only once or twice. it was on the east side, perhaps in the fifites also. the most memorable thing about this is that they specialized in theme rooms, a sort of disneyland approach. the two rooms i remember was the wedding room and the jungle room. the wedding room was all made up frizzy looking with a lot of pink and was to recreate the atmosphere of a special place on a wedding night. the other, the jungle room (and the one i choose) was all decked out with trees and hay/grass/bushes. it truly looked like you were in a jungle. i had never came across anything quite like this in my span of ten/eleven years that i roamed the area. anybody have any memories of this last place?

add to this dozens of one/two girl apartments scattered as high as 81st on the east side, second ave in the fifites/forties, the upper west side, the area in the 30’s east of 5th ave, all of which are just a blur of one time stop and shops for me.

no trip down memory lane would be complete for this timeframe without a discussion of the harmony, which has been lightly touched upon by a few other posts in this thread. i have a few new comments that will bring back some memories to you all who lived thru this scene as i did, that i don’t think were mentioned, on my next post.

Mr. Leo's

yes, you made me remember a few facts about catherine’s place on 27th street. there was a nightclub/dancehall on the second floor. it was the reason for the red awning at the entrance of the building. this would be the opportune time for greyfox to jump in and tell us the name of the nightclub/dancehall.
I thought about this when I first saw the reference to a club on 27th & B'way, but didn't think it was relevant. But since you asked me ...............

Mr. Leo's ---I think the small illuminated sign on the north side of 27th between 5th & B'way read "Mr. Leo's Southern Cuisine ". I never went there, but on weekends there was always a lot of traffic congestion from club goers(Well-dressed 30-ish black crowd) and cars stopped for streetwalkers who worked from the Senton Hotel east along 27th past Le Trapeze, sometimes as far east as Madison Ave.
Mr.Leo(I think Leo was his last name) was a relatively young man who was shot to death in the Bronx during the holidays(New Years Eve?) around '92 or '93.I don't know how long after his death the club closed.

Thanks for the clarification, justlooking.I incorrectly assumed it was a caberet. If the address is correct possibly a dance club preceded Mr.Leo at the same venue, since I don't know the exact year(s) Viagraman is referring to,or there may have been another dance club at the same address concurrently. It's not really important to the topic of the thread, but if you know the answer pass it along.

Yes, I DO remember this place. It was one of those places that took out the full page ad in the back of Screw. Charged a hefty house fee and then you tipped beyond that. I think they did a lot of expense acount business. Could it have been The Taj Majha?
This place with the Jungle Room was the place I met the woman I aluded to in a prior post in this thread "Wife of a DJ" who's name was Susan. I spilled a lot of seed in that Jungle Room.

no trip down memory lane would be complete without a discussion of the harmony. although there was some posts about the harmony, i think there must be a few more untold stories about this place. i have a few.

i discovered this place probably the same way most people did. in the back of screw, right before the ads, there were several pages that described various types of places in the sex trade. X-rated movie theaters, peep show emporiums, massage places, etc etc. under one of those categories (burlesque?) was a description of the harmony, with mention of mardi gras. i finally made by first visit there. i don’t remember the year and i’m almost at a loss to figure out when. i will say my time there was in the vicinity of 1977 to 1980. i came to frequent this place just about every saturday afternoon between those years. from what i remember, i think, back in those days it would cost $10 to get in, but for some reason my mind is telling me that it might have been less, maybe $6 of $8. i believe it was on 49th street or 48th street. if i went there again, i would be certain. i think there is a gay club there now. it was just west of broadway on the north side of the street, i believe second floor up the stairs. it had a big runway, a reasonable number of seats and a ledge around the three walls. hardly anyone sat down. you would immediately try to stake out your space up against the wall so that when the babes came out and passed by, you could trade $2 for the pleasure to put your hands all over their body. certainly all other parts were ok, and since i’m a boob man, this place was ideal for me.

$2 got you a reasonable amount of time and you could always ante up another $2 and the girl would stay. this is why it was sometimes advantageous to get as close to the end of the ledge closest to the stage. they would be coming out from that direction soon after they made their appearance. on any given day, maybe there would be 30 or so girls working there. perhaps eight would come out at a time, stay out for maybe 20 or 30 minutes, then go in and then another set would come out. they would rotate like this all day long. i could hardly understand why they said that mardi gras was declared sometimes, because it was always on when i went. perhaps that wasn’t the case during the week.

there was one girl who had a very big clit. her name was veriknotty. there was a girl, a rather tall blond, who as soon as she came out, would stake her claim to a place on the stage and lay down. a line of guys would assemble for dinner. i believe it also cost $2 for the meal. usually they would wipe between guys. i had my favorites. anybody whose skin and boobs were nice to the touch.

as mentioned in an earlier post they would frequently book porn stars, many (but not all) of who came and mingled like the other girls. if i remember, when the porn star came out, she was on stage alone, with all the other girls out of sight (fuzzy). there was a particular porn star who frequented the place often. i can’t remember her name. blond, great body, a real crowd pleaser. she was from france. i wish i could remember her name. anybody can help here?

to be continued (with one of the most bizarre things i ever witnessed with my own eyes)...

The Harmony( Melody) was great. I first saw an ad in the Daily News. A famous stripper was headlining. When I walked in I was amazed with what was happening. I was hooked. This was 1980. Seka appeared there. One of the regulars, Trish Ambrose, made some movies. It was heaven at the Melody. The guy who announced the girls for Mardi Gras was a pisser.

thanks mcheck57. seka was the name i was looking for. the name trish ambrose seems familiar. did she, does she work as a provider? is her picture somewhere on the web? thanks.

Georgie would announce the names of each group of " beautiful and sexy showgirls" as they took the stage. You could also count on hearing owner/crooner Bob Anthony's recording of "Angela" on every visit.Besides Tish,Tiffany Clark,Sue Nero,Susaye London,Kandi Barbour,& Annette Heinze were also regular house girls who did some "films" in the pre-video "Boogie Nights" era.Veri Knotty had very large labia minora, which she could tie in knots and perform a "Puppetry of the Pussy" type show during her feature engagements.Girls often had food and drink across the street at Bernard's,which got a nice mix of tourists.theater people(rememember seeing Ed Harris there when he had a gig on the block),porno guys(Ron Jeremy,Jamie Gillis,Fred Lincoln) and locals.I think both buildings were vacated and soon thereafter demolished, circa late '86 early '87.So don't take that nostalgia trek to west 48th ViagraMan.......it's also all gone.
