Lil's was around in the late 70's- early 80's. I found it to be the BEST 'bar' I ever went to.
All I can say is EVERYTHING went on there, on the stage,at the bar, and in the back.
The girls were from stunning to dogs, but they all were very, very accomadating.
They also did the group thing one night while I was there (after they locked the doors at about 4am. That was the first and last time I saw anything like that.
I hope this lets you know what you missed.
It also tells me, I'm getting old.

I'm sorry I missed this place. At that time, I was a teenager, and I practically lived in the Melody (later the Harmony) on 48th and Bway. When I first started , they had fully nude lap dancing, and many of the ladies allowed dining. There used to be 5 to 15 girls laid out on stage, with dudes between their legs chowing down.
This is why I always find most strip clubs these days a disappointment.

This Diamond Lil's place, was it a private club, or something you could just walk in off of the street ? It sounds a lot like Club 90 or Studio 90, where anything goes. And were the activities out in the open, or in a private area.

i was awol from this board for about a week so i missed being current on this topic, which being an old geezer at this point, is one of my favorite. so let me spin a few of my tales, which i hope invoke memories from the other old timers and awe from the rookies.

it was the year 1972 or maybe 1973 (as you will see, some of my memory has faded) and i discovered screw magazine. the only interesting part for me were the ads in the back, because that is what told you where the babes were. i tried out a couple of places, but real soon hit on a place that did several ads each week. the quality of girls there were terrific. the place was between 6th and 7th on i think 53rd or 54th (whichever is the northern most street of the hilton). there was a jazz place in the basement next door, i seem to remember. besides great looking girls, the setup was quite nice from what i remember. a duplex, with the bedrooms on the top floor via a spiral staircase. there also seemed to be an endless number of new faces to choose from. it became my default place to go when i was in need, although i frequented other places from time to time. i later found out that the place was run by a girl who i think was formerly in the business. i think her name was lynn. she dressed up in army fatigues and an army green cap frequently. she was pretty herself, but by this time just a tad stocky. they finally moved to a brownstone on the east side, somewhere in the forties or fifties. i think maybe between third and second. they were on the second or third floor. one level. living room in the front and bedrooms in the back. i think this was the place which had a balcony in the back where they set up a tent where you would do your thing when all the bedrooms were occupied. i believe it was in this place and not the other where i first met the famous mick. she was just 17, if you know what i mean. so she wasn’t allowed to work. she did cleaning chores around the house and did not show off her body, which with a body like hers, was not easy to do. waiting to be 18 she was. the first time i had her, she asked me what i liked. i said girls. i was then going to explain myself, but she stopped me. she thought it was a great answer and i needn’t say anymore. how many of you oldtimets remember the nature of mick’s ad? it said something like “girl who has been in playboy”. and there was truth in advertisement. i still have that issue and from time to time look at it, even if it was a bit part. there was a gorgeous busty blond who worked there, whose name i forgot. she became jealous of mick when mick started working. seems that many of her customers moved over to mick. she left and worked for another place. i saw the blond at that other place once. this second location also had another floor where i was taken when it was crowded one day. it was a dungeon place that they were allowed to use i guess. it was a real eye opener for me to see this place. they finally moved from this floor to a ground floor location one block south and to the east, i think of that road that takes you into the 59th street bridge. i don’t remember ever seeing mick at this place. i think she had departed on her own by this time. this above description spanned a good number of years. prices at the start i think were $50 per hour. when they went to $60, i think they offered $40 for a half-hour. when i write next, i tell what i know of mick striking it out on her own.

ViagraMan, you are talking about the place known in the old Screw listings as Overture. Several of us had postings about it earlier in the thread. In my view, as I said in an earlier posting, the classiest place in New York, the classiest ever. You will find several fond memories of Mick earlier in the thread.

OK, I'm going to take you way back. The phone number in the days when it was in the house by the Hilton was 757-1054. Sound familiar?

O boy, were those ever the days..............

seems like mick went independent. i don’t know whether she had a falling out with lynn or not. seems like she was becoming a part owner with lynn prior to her going independent, but that is highly speculative on my part, since i really didn’t ask a lot of questions about the business. i decided to visit mick at her new location one day. it was in the twenties i think between 5th and 7th. maybe low thirties or high teens. a stones throw from the garden. i believe she lived there also. although i went there expecting to see mick, she told me that she had an appointment soon and i could have her roommate. a very pretty blond with skin like silk. i can’t remember her name. she was from philadelphia. she became my main squeeze every friday after work. i really enjoyed her. by this time it was around 1981, 1982 and/or 1983. prices had gone to $80 for the hour. i always gave the girl from philly a $20 tip. it was also the time where aids was becoming a buzz word. at first it appeared to be a gay thing, but that was soon dispelled. i believe the blond stopped working. i think i had decided to be safe until the storm ended. who knew what about aids at that point. having left the scene, i never knew what happened to mick. i do know that the ads in screw were drying up.

i had once seen mick walking on the sidewalk going north on 7th ave on the opposite side of the street from the garden. i recognized her and i’m sure she recognized me, but we passed like two leaves in the wind. it was sometime after she went independent, but the exact timeframe i do not remember.

i have a few more thoughts about the girls from lynn’s place, which i will fondly tell about on my next post.

Never knew the place by a name. don't ever remember them using a name in their ads either. but i do remember the last four numbers of that telephone (but not the first three). i seem to remember that there was a second number also to reach the place. correct? that was a fond memory when i saw the number from your post. but do i have a shocker of a memory for you on my next post.

my last post of the night, but certainly not my last word on memory lane. i would like to throw out a few other names to see if anybody remembers them. all will be from the girls of lynn’s place, which you otherwise call the overture,) but like i said, i can’t believe they ever used that in an ad in screw. was it from word of moiuth. where was that ever written?)

So here comes a name from the past. perhaps the second most famous alumni from this place. anybody remember the famous sensa. she came before micks time. she was from utah. black hair. eventually had a boob job. i liked them better when they were smaller and perky. but she knew how to give you a good time. she left eventually when she married. she was into swapping and group sex i was told. she once came back to work for a few days at lynn’s place. i had an appointment with her, but it got fouled up. never did she her again. she was fantastic and was one of my early favorites when i first frequented lynn’s place. i wish i could see her once more. anybody remember her?

there was a blonde from the five towns area of long island who started working there. i spent many an hour with her. she knew sensa from the group sessions. she once told me if i was a good boy she would take me there with her one day. i was never so lucky (it didn’t happen). i don’t remember her name.

there was betsy from michigan. blonde nice body. saw her many times.

anybody remember star? she eventually left for vegas i think.

if anybody remembers brooke i would be estatic. a real class lady. she wasn’t there too long but she was the first to do my head with her nails while i was doing my thing. it was great.

i frequently visited with a girl from puerto rico i think. nice body, well endowed. she was nice to me. don’t remember her name. she was going to take her money and go to spain to live i think, or somewhere in south america, but i think spain. does that ring any bells? i last visited with her on her last day there, the day she was taking a flight to wherever she was retiring to.

does anybody remember a girl there by the name tia, i think. she was one of the founding members. brown hair. my first doggie style experience.

another early member - i think her name was beth. slim. told me she was married to an engineer and lived in westchester. she said he didn’t make enough money.

i also liked a girl who was a college student. i met her at the second location. she wasn’t pretty at all, but a body to die for. she was a gymnist. i remember her well, for once when i finished, she kept on going. said to me “we girls gotta feel good also”. not my usual experience.

these are the ones that come to mind from lynn’s pace. inbetween these there must have been dozens more one timers, for my trips there lasted nearly eight years or so. like the girl who was a nurse, etc. vague memories, all of them.

Lil's

JJ:
I guess i'm the only one who remembers or wants to remember thisplace.
Lil's was a dive. Anyone could walk in and partake , no cover charge and I think the beers were about $3. which was not bad considering the action. At the bar were some locals amongst the the horn dogs. Sometimes some of the local woman who were customers would do whatever for the customers at the bar to pick up a few bucks. It all went on at the stage, aqt the bar and in the back hallway and in the bathrooms and ladies dressing room. I remember one night when a dancer got pissed at another one for taking to long with someone in the dressing room.
I used to go there at least once a week, usually more until the placed was closed.

ViagraMan: Great memories.

It was called Overture on --th (name of street omitted) by the summary reviews in Screw--never by the place itself, as you say.

Didn't the house by the Hilton have a hardware store in the basement? The house itself had beautiful plaster work--ceiling medallions etc. You took your shower in a old-time tub with legs and a shower curtain all around.

I think I remember the blonde from Philly, wasn't she kind of a reddish-blonde who wanted to open a restaurant in Philly?

Mick's partner in the first place after Overture that I remember, the apartment near the Pierre, was a jolly, slightly plumpish girl who may have been related to the owner of the house by the Hilton. Then she was in a walkup building--nice building, but no elevator--just west of Central Park South, with acouple of different partners.

I think a lot of the girls were students. They recruited heavily from NYU I believe.

i don’t remember a hardware store being in the basement on the place near the hilton. i remember that you had to walk up several steps to get to the door entrance. i remember as you left and turned toward 7th ave, right next door at basement level was a jazz place or restaurant/jazz place. memory is vague on this. i plan to visit the site on monday to secure the address and see what is next door at this point. i am fairly certain that i will be able to locate the exact building. btw, my memory just jogged and i remember being told that the building was actually owned by the hilton. don’t know whether that was/is true.

i didn’t see any response about sensa. perhaps she was a bit before your time. what was the year you started to frequent this place?

i might also do a site visit of the place near the 59th street bridge. i know i can come within a few doors of the place, if not the exact address.

the place on the east side, the one they occupied between the first and the third place, i’m not at all sure that i could locate again. i do remember that you had to walk up a set of stairs to get to the door. i seemed to remember that it was east of either third or second ave. it would be a challenge to find.

i’m surprised to hear that this place is still in business. does it have the same owner running it that did so in the 70’s? she would have to be in her 50’s now. would love for you to tell me where it is so i can do a visit (as a customer). if it is the same lady, i wonder if she would remember me. she has probably stayed in touch with sensa. they were good friends back then.

i don’t have much more of interest to add about this place. however, i do have some interesting stories about catherine, who will be the subject of my next post.

ViagraMan: I don't think I ever visited the location you mention between the days of the Hilton house and the days of the 58th Street apartment. I visited 58th St many times and the current location many times.

Fraid I didn't know Sensa, or don't remember her.

I could give you a number for the present location but I don't want to do it on an open board. Dunno quite how to do this as I don't want to give out my email address either. Any ideas?

Eddie Condon's.

I remember an "upscale" brothel near the club on the south side of 54th across from what is now the Rhiga hotel. There was also a brief uptown incarnation of the jazz club Half Note in the 70's where the Rhiga now stands.I think this was during the Tahitia,Harem era.

Silver Slipper was not upscale.I think it was on 45th,north side and just west of 6th.A membership card got you in for 19$,you sat around in a room with the girls, chose one,and went to one of the tiny cubicle/rooms off of the main room.A modest 20-30$ could get you whatever you wanted. There was one room next to the entrance door often worked exclusively by an active, talkative woman called CeCe.A second floor walk up operation, late 70s vintage, immediately preceded in the same location by a half-assed stripclub with ?champagne room action that I think was called the Blue Garter.

Greyfox: Was it the final incarnation of Condon's (which in its glory days was on 4th Street in the Village)? Or was it the final likewise of Jimmy Ryan's? Either way, I think Balaban & Cats was the lead band in the days we are talking about--he played the flugelhorn rather than the trumpet or the cornet.

ViagraMan--I think the building on 54th was demolished along with several adjacent old 5 story buildings to erect 1325 Ave. of the Americas. This is an unusual address for a building closer to 7th Ave.The building appears to be connected by some enclosed overhead catwalks to the Hilton(1335 Ave. of Americas),so your belief that the Hilton owned the property is very possible. If you visit the site let me know, but I think that building only exists now in the hazy nostalgic memories of our youth.I felt a little melancholy walking on that block this sunny Sunday afternoon.

Rajah--I'm pretty sure it was Condon's final uptown location. I know he died around '73.But like ViagraMan I'm just a little uncertain of the details. It might have been Jimmy Ryan's.
