I've said it before - nothing beats the combination of TrueCrypt and Portable Firefox. You can put your encrypted drive anywhere - on a USB thumb drive or in an inconspicuous file. The encryption is practically unbreakable without the password and you don't have to worry about your browser history.

i use TC and FFox Portable. My problem is that if someone were to screw around with my computer, they would still see the Truecrypt program. There they could figure out which partition of the hard disk is likely a TC volume and try to map it by guessing the password. So the password needs to be strong. Thats one. And then, the other problem I have is that someone could conceivably destroy the integrity of the partition. So, in effect, I can make my confidential activity secure but I can't make it safe. In other words, I put all my sensitive stuff in a really good sturdy box, but someone could throw the box into the river and all would be lost. The third issue that I encountered is problems with backup. I haven't been able to create a disk image for backup purposes without getting error messages. Not sure why this is.

Yup, strong passwords are definitely a requirement. You could create a dummy TC volume with a weak password to throw off snoops. Put some tax info in it or something. Have that one setup to auto-mount when you launch TC and most likely your opponent won't look further.

I don't have a good answer for the other problems - maybe ask on the TC forums?

The disk image problem may be cause by the software you are using, Ghost and Driveimage do not like to image an encrypeted partition. That would defeat the purpose of using disk image software. You may be able to us a backup software like seagate backup, but you would have to run it from the encrypted partition.

There are other ways to get caught. As a careful married guy, there is one in particular which I worry about most. The truth is that no computer program or pre-paid phone is going to help you out, if you bring something home with you that wasn't there when you left. Sure I insist on a condom, but who among us can resist those first few licks of the shaft. More importantly,what about those damn STD's you can get even wearing a condom, especially herpes- that naked accidental bruhsing and touching while your preoccupied with some other activity... Honestly, if it weren't for those nagging worries I'd probably be broke by now. ( I live near Ct, where most of my experiences over the last 20 uears have been good) I am thoroughly addicted.

Any stategies for above concern. Thanks

I'm lucky in this area. I only go for hj's and as almost an odd "fetish" I like the girls to stay fully clothed.

I also never write anything down. I use a prepaid cell that is locked. If ever wifey found it, I would say I found it on the train which is reasonable. Addresses are confined to memory otherwise. Everything else is on my encrypted hard drive. For the occasional home use, I now use google chrome's incognito feature on the family computer. If for some reason I find myself traveling to some nearby city for a session, I make sure that I have a story before something happens. The story has all the details of why I am there at that time at that location etc. Some things you can't cover up like getting arrested but short of that, my story stands no matter how unlikely. What's more likely: "Honey I was at the so and so hotel so meet a prospective client who called me on my cell and happened to be in so and so town and bla blah blah..." or "Honey, I went to so and so hotel to meet with a prostitute and get my socks blown off..."

I live in NJ, work in NY and I've been living with gf for 1 year. I had a close call last week after my business trip to Atlantic city. I left my pre-paid in suit jacket, and gf found it. I was non-chalant and told her i found it on the train. She looked at the numbers, but luckily i always erase. She didn't give it a moments thought. phone is still sitting there. i don't want to touch it.

Quick hobby phone tip

When you are in the hobby mode (on your way to a date or something), and your wife or SO calls your regular phone, many of us nowadays are on bluetooth through the car. So as you are speaking with SO through the car your hobby phone rings,,,,,uh oh, gotta come up with a quick one. This happened to me yesterday, and i just said "what the fuck was that" and that was it, but, it could be a problem. so put it on vibrate even in the car when you are all alone.
