Red light camera's... and why frogger54 is exempt.

#42
Despite @frogger54 belief that red light tickets work not catch up to the registrant, eventually one is declared a scofflaw ( by NY DMV) —
This will prevent one from buying a car and transferring those plates.. ( The plate and registrant will get suspended) until fines are paid
I have never transferred plates. If you are in the 2nd year of (or almost) it doesn't pay to transfer. Plus I sell my cars privately so I still have the old car for a weeks or two after i get the new one.

Just my two cents on RLC

A while back NC decided the the intersection of Rt109 and Main st in Farmingdale was going to get a red light camera.

As been stated by the politicians from the get-go, intersections getting RLC's were determined strictly on improving safety w/o regard to revenue generation.

Well just before the cameras were to be installed Village of Farmingdale notified NC that this intersection was in the Village and as such all revenues generated would be split between the NC and VOF.

Well, poof! — over night the intersection became safer and thus not in need of a RLC.

Go figure.

Same thing happened in RVC and Freeport.

“Suffolk County's red light camera program will end by Dec. 1. A bill to extend it by five years failed to pass the state legislature. As a result, Suffolk will be $8 million short for next year's county budget. County Comptroller John Kennedy Jr. said some budget items may need to be cut or adjusted”

I got nailed at a school speed zone camera in da bronx.
it was only 50 bucks thank God
I've gotten a bunch of those in Queens and the one I got on Union Turnpike the school was like two blocks away.

One of the school cameras on the GCP service road, westbound between 164th and 168th the school is actually on the eastbound side of the GCP. So if you're familiar with this area, the GCP is actually dug out below the road so unless you're a comic book superhero, you're not crossing the road at that point.

The law (as I recall and for school bus cameras too) specifically excludes divided highways that have a physical barrier preventing pedestrians access to where the speeders are. For example Hempstead turnpike is a divided highway but if there isn't a physical barrier (a grass or cement median is not a physical barrier as students ca walk across it) technically school bus or a school cameras on one side applies to drivers on the other side of the highway.

An example of a divided highway with a barrier is Hempstead Turnpike by Home Depot in Levittown when the county installed a fence on the cement median between the W lanes and the E lanes prevent pedestrians from crossing except at the light where there are cross walks (due I assume to the number of pedestrian fatalities there).

I would think that the situation you describe could be challenged as there is technically a physical barrier (unless as you point out you're a comic book superhero).

I got busted in a school zone in Queens coming off the exit ramp of the LIE...what bullshit!
Is that the one in Lake Success?
I think people were fighting that one. I heard the camera is on the service road and the school is in the other side of a high fence, trees with no access from the school to the road.

Always drive with waze or something similar on. You will see most cameras and other pitfalls.
I drive with Waze on even if I don't need directions just for the red light and speed camera warnings. Also it reroutes you if it knows of an accident ahead.

Just a heads up for you guys who have it mounted in a holder above the front dash — when I was driving E the sun on my iPhone combined with the heat generated by the phone itself over heated it and it shutdown. I took it off the older and held it in front of one of the AC vents to cool it.
After it came back to life I left it on the front seat out of the sun light.

Also, be aware that when you log on to WAZE it gives you suggestions as to most recent places. Perhaps there might be someone nearby, say in the passenger seat and in view of those suggestions who may find it curious as to why you went to them. Just sayin.

With respect to Waze…
IDK if it’s me, or what— I’ve used both Waze and Google Maps simultaneously taking a couple of trips into Manhattan recently and have found Google to be slightly more accurate..
Could this be possible ?

That's why I stopped using Waze, it would make my phone overheat.

I have not used Google maps recently and do not know if they report all speed and red light cameras. Waze is owned by Google so features are shared. I did that waze is very good at cameras and decent in the city for reports of cops.
