How much money have you spent in your life on the hobby?

#22
Over 50 years in the hobby, have lost track of the approximate amount spent. About ten years ago I had a rough estimate of about 500K so who knows. My frequency has greatly diminished as I got older but still hobby 3-4 times a month. Have paid from $7 to $600 for my sessions. Half of the ventures have been abroad where it is so much cheaper.

My feeling is as long as my bills and obligations are all met, it is an entertainment expense for me.
We all enjoy the thrill of the hunt, the fresh experience, and the UTR favorites that last for years....
All part of the joy of this hobby.
You can make the same argument on money that is spent on a boat, country club, going out for dinners, etc...

3 years ago I decided to answer that very question. I created a database where I tracked my hobbying. It is all in code so no danger if anyone looks at it. I can run all sorts of reports. My average monthly cost, how often I go, how many times I see certain providers, etc.

I was getting concerned about the money, but then I listened to many of my co-workers and their hobbys. Fishing, cars, boats, guitars, sports leagues. They were spending almost as much money on their hobbies as I was spending on mine. They have their hobbies I have mine. LOL. As long as all my bills are paid and I am playing with disposable money, no harm done.

$7 — please do tell.

I've probably spent over $250K.
However, that # is misleading because I've been doing this for half a century and $50 back in 1970 was worth a lot more than $50 today.
Well as I mentioned I have hobbied abroad and at the then exchange rate the cost came out to $7. Here in New York $8 was the lowest at the old "Derby Club" on 8th av and 44-45 streets circa 1978-79. I also recall as a teen going out for a ride with four other guys and picking up an older blonde. This was on the lower east side mid 70's. She blew us all for $30 so it came out to $6 apiece. And yes it was bareback with her spitting out and swallowing some as was the norm in those days.

It's really no one's fucking business how much I spend on the hobby.

Lol, jk

About 20k a year the past few.

There used to be a thread at the end of each year about 15 years ago where guys would list approximately how much they spent that year.

I remember going thru my reviews and added it up and supplying an answer.

No worries Billy as you can take your UG pension benefits early to help with your P4P cost.

Just to put the $'s into perspective, adjusting for inflation from mid-1970's to today on the $30 and $6 paid comes out to $151.50 and $30.30, respectively, in 2021 dollars.

About 500 bux a month * 12 months in a year * 14 years (17, but took a couple off when I had been engaged and almost engaged) = 84k. Add in the rooms, SA memberships, going to Boston, AC, and DC, etc ... Probably 100k? Sheesh

To put some of this in perspective. I spend about 12K-15K a year on my hobby. I have a friend who goes out for lunch everyday and is a heavy smoker, a pack to a pack and a half a day. Rough estimate, those two things run him about 8K a year. I brown bag it and don't smoke, I am sure he is spending another 7k on something else. Given all the possible vices to spend monay on, I will continue with mine.

Easy come easy go. I do take breaks took one in 2013-2014 for a year 2015-2016 for a year. 2018-2019 9 mos. And I've been hobbying really since 2010. Up until 2018 I never spent even $500 a month. This year I've spent a lot more. Cause of sbs, pros very minimal since April. I've been spending over $1k a month.

Nice.
I brown bag it, too, and even have brought a thermos of coffee, skimped by buying good second hand cream-puff cars as opposed to new, stayed at AIRBNB's instead of fancy hotels, simple cheap clothes, run the stairways over the railroad tracks instead of buying a Stairmaster machine or going to the gym, and spend a few bucks in the brothels in the poorer sections of town. "Waste not; want not."
