He gave them fucking money and they looked the other way... it's that simple. And it's not just the local chapter that's had issues, a few years back one or more of the NCAA bigwigs were in a lot bigger trouble, I don't recall why, but just like any public or private organization.... they are not like Caesar's wife*.

Btw... I've heard or read my share of the tapes/transcripts and he didn't say he was better than anyone or use any slurs. Anyone with common sense and not thinking with their hurt feeling knows what he meant. He's an old coot with some nice arm candy and runs in circles most of us only dream about. He was embarrassed his arm candy was flaunting her relationships (or just photo op's) in public and it made him look bad. Unfortunately for him she posed with a black guy and not a white or asian or anything else who had Magic Johnson's "cocks-man" reputation. And he clearly said she could have sex with them (which leads anyone to think he wasn't fucking her), just not be seen in public or posted to her webpages. He didn't tell her not to bring blacks (or minorities as he put it) to the game cause he didn't want blacks at the games or thought them inferior... he said it cause he didn't want HER BEING SEEN WITH THEM BECAUSE IT EMBARRASSED HIM.

If course there are other racist, I believe he is the worst kind because he's unapologically arrogant and in a deep psychosis wirh his false sense of superiority. He believes the people come to the games and the players own things because he exists when the truth is he is more replaceable then the worst player in the NBA. Sociopath narcissistic hate filled obscenely wealthy people are common but person athletically talented and charismatic enough to qualify let alone excel in any professional sports are exceptional. I don't think he has any delusions that he's the reason people come to a game or that players are successful only because of him. As as far as any narcissist attitudes ... Spike Lee at a Knick game is way more guilty of that than Sterling. And I'll tell you this, spike has been overheard many time telling black players how they could or should drive on "that cracker" all day. Matter of tact there's a clip on the internet of Spike saying it and Tracy Morgan sitting a few seats away overhearing it, cracking up and then mimicking Spike by repeating it.
Here's the thing... In the private sector where freedom of speech doesn't apply, you can't tell your fake trophy GF to not take blacks to your teams games, but according to the Supreme Court you can march down Main Street USA (like those in Skokie Illinois) with hoods on your heads and scream about niggers and jews all you want. This is not a free speech issue (i saw someone mention that).... It's not the Govt regulating speech. It's sponsors, business partners and the public.

Ozzy, I know where free speech is applied and it is the court of public opinion that is reacting, the first doesn't protect you from that and he's has to take the consequences. I do think those tapes should have never been recorded, I wouldn't want to he recorded in the privacy of my home but overblown ego set him up. He is delusional to think a young attractive woman would spend 4 years of her life with him and give the compensation back, he did this all to himself. I'm not arguing that he's everything you accuse him of. If those depositions from his past court cases are true he's a lot more a racist than a guy telling his girlfriend not to associate with black people. But he's also no different than just about every other owner of a professional sports team or billionaire or elitest in this country. They all play or have played at country clubs that didn't (and some still don't) allow blacks or jews. Some of them don't see a black they're entire day unless they're in the front seat with a chauffeurs caps on. They're all out of touch with reality (you may call it delusional) and probably couldn't tell you the price of a gal of milk, a car or a middle class house. But for everything you have to say about him you should say it about most of the rest of world including some of those you hail because I can guarantee you that 90% of the world has said what he did or worse about some race of people.

And where was Silver when Chris Brown not only gets gifted court side seats to almost every Laker game but does publicity for the NBA by shilling their jerseys. The guy only beat a woman within an inch of her life. Where's the outrage over that... certainly not from you of all people who rails on just about any republican as a woman hater. Ozzy, I agree there is an unequal divide with professional sports ownership and this horrible story is bringing more attention to it. I'm sure some buy teams for the love of the sport and some buy for more sinister reasons. Most wealthy people are delusional, some say things more outrageous then Sterling especially about the poor but they are so removed from everyday society they don't have to deal with thebacklash of a specific community. I think it was hit a nerve with the NBA was what he said about his providing for the players rather then random racism if you want to compare. I found his plantation mentality most disturbing myself, he thinks of himself as some big sugar daddy that wields this imaginary control, he doesn't seem to understand his players (and mistress) are not his property or extensions of himself.

To be fair to Al I wouldn't condemn him for helping law enforcement and I thought it was incredibly fucked up that a major newspaper called him (or anyone) a rat for doing so. It certainly won't encourage others to step up as a witness and/or and help LE with a criminal investigation if they face being outed on the front page as a rat.

What happened was that Al got himself involved in a drug deal and got caught by the feds who made Al work with them to help bring down the supplier in exchange for making his drug charge "go away". So instead of just being a racist, trouble maker and extortionist... you can add failed drug dealer to his resume.

The one thing i started thinking after all of this came out and especially now after the wife WANTS the team and will fight for it could cost her huge money for lawyers and I would think the value of the franchise will plummet.

You can look to the Washington Redskins as a similar case. These fucking indians (especially this Ray character from Oneida Nation in upstate NY) have been demanding Daniel Snider change the name and he's been reluctant to even meet with them let alone entertain their demands. I know it's an entirely different story because the indians complaining aren't deserving of any constitutional, local, state or govt laws simply for the fact... they're not part of this country, they don't pay taxes, horde all that casino money of which the "real deserving indians" never see a fucking dime and they give virtually nothing back locally (other than under paying their employees cause state min wage doesn't apply) unlike every other legal gaming authority in this country... so in my opinion...
