Unheralded Movies

The famous movie line thread made me think about great movies that didn't make it big.
A favorite movie of mine is Scarecrow, a buddy film with a young Pacino and Gene Hackman. Hackman was interviewed on Larry King and he said his favorite movie was Scarecrow.
I also liked White Palace. Susan Sarandon was so hot she melted the screen.

"Paths of Glory," early Stanley Kubrick movie. Not exactly unknown, but not widely known either.

Superb WWI story starring Kirk Douglas. One of Kubrick's two best, imho, the other being "Dr. Strangelove."

I had never heard of the movie till I rented it. It's about a year old, great acting, powerful movie.----Don Cheadle directed and starred.

One of my ATF's, True Romance, Patricia Arquette and Christian Slater.

Some of my best home made porns, Spinal Tap and Big Bad Momma... Any movie with William "Capt Kirk" Shatner fucking the shit out of Angie "Police Woman" Dickenson should make the list of any male who reached puberty in the 1970's.

Tokyo Decadence---A film about hookers in....well Tokyo. Features some great lines as "You see that skyline out there? So many girls in this city just waiting for hard cock" and "A cunt is just a cunt, let's see which of you has the better tongue." Raunchy, fun, a little twisted and the dubbing of Japanese to English makes it more comical.

McCabe and Mrs. Miller----Something very original and touching about this film. Takes place in turn of the century Pacific northwest. May look like a western at first glance but it's much more. Warren Beatty plays a business man opening up a whore house. Developers want to buy him out and when he refuses, things get rough.
Favorite lines "Hey do you have any sox for sale? I wore mine out running around that whorehouse all weekend"
and
"Well, you killed a Chinaman, that's a $50 fine."

The Big Lobowski----Bowling,Kidnapping,German Nihilists. One of the Coen bros. best

Happiness-----I recommend everyone see this. Make sure it's NC-17 or unrated. I can't even describe it on this board. I believe it was praised by the critics too. Edgy, honest, brutal, sometimes funny, often disturbing.

Was it White Palace or Atlantic City where she rubs lemons on her nipples?

Hey, good thread idea Rok. A good movie which didn't get much attention when it was in the theaters but is now almost a cult hit is Office Space. Its casted very well and it really captures the essence of a horrible, mundane 9-5existance nicely. That dildo boss, Lumberg, is a great character.
