Red Light and Speed Cameras

#21
So here is a real kick in the nuts! My daughter had someone hit and run at a big intersection. She went to the hospital and car sustained 30 percent damage but not totaled.
I told cops to investigate cameras and the flat out said no. All about cash.

They said someone needs to die to look at cameras because its not worth their time

Some great 411 here... started this post just to offer a heads up and warning.. b b is watching..
Didn’t realize the cameras for the most part was a money grab

So what’s up with all the license plates that have been defaced? Heard that ticket goes for $300, but definitely been seeing more of them.

I agree with you @trader1 early May I received a ticket on the mail for Driving on the bus lane on NYC 14th St East bound right before Unions Square. Crazy thing is that I’ve been driving on NYC for 10+ yrs and I’m very familiar with the area, it must be a recent change only trucks and Buses are allowed to drive through Union Square on 14th Street, or else you will get a ticket on the mail like me. I live on the island and I’ve know of some red light cameras and speed traps that have been taken down because people feel it’s not fair and in some form fee like they’re been targeted depending on the town.
You can only drive on 14th from 10pm till 5 or 6am. Pretty sure that started January 2020.

If you think you have covered your tracks by registering your car to your business address to intercept camera tickets by mail, and you have dutifully paid all parking tickets promptly before the city sent a reminder/past due notice, note that vehicles have less privacy than people.

You can look up past paid and unpaid photo and parking infractions by plate number at https://www.howsmydrivingny.nyc and usually get the date and location of the infraction. You can do this for any plate.

No...whatever shows up when you log in will be in your box. A picture if the mail piece will show up and that's what you get in your mailbox. No filters at all.
How did you sign up for that?
Do you have to go to the post office or can you do it online.

I have two PO boxes at a PO in a different town than I live in under names other than me (I won't go into why). I set up informed delivery online so I only go to PO when there is mail I need to see.

I let junk mail build up and if there isn't a postage paid return envelope I throw it out at PO (they have paper blue recycle bins there).

Any junk mail that comes with a postage paid return envelope gets all the crap sent to me from that sender stuffed in it and "Remove me from mailing list" written by me next to the name it is sent to. This costs them much more than the original bulk mail rate on the junk mail and gives the sender an incentive to remove me from their mailing list. The whole process costs me maybe 15 seconds and I believe this has reduced junk mail considerably over the years to the box and also the corresponding # of informed delivery emails sent to me.

You do it online USPS.com...and just click on informed delivery. It's pretty easy to do.
You may have to make a quick stop at any post office for the final step. As I recall you print a page, bring it in to the post office, and show ID. They scan the printed code and you are done.

Not accurate at all. I put in my plate # and in 2019 there is a violation for Failure to Display Meter Receipt in Manhattan at 1365 York Ave. A place I have never been.

Maybe you need to talk to your wife or kids?
A guy I know got a failure to pay fine on PARKING TICKET for a day his car was parked in JFK long term parking and he was in CA. He had proof of both and sent them in with ticket and pleaded not guilty and fine/penalty was dropped.

Turns out he was in area of parking area week before, properly parked and weather was nice that day. Date of parking ticket was week later and date on ticket was of a day where weather was awful — torrential rain, wind, miserable day for a parking enforcement person to be walking around. Talking with someone in the know about how such could happen and he said that some of the enforcement guys write down plate, etc., while doing their rounds on nice days so that they can hang out in a diner to write out tickets during days they don't want to do their rounds but still need to meet their daily quota.

I got a failure to pay notice on a ticket from Buffalo once when I was a kid. Car on ticket did not match make, color of mine and plate # had 2 digits transposed. I wrote back such and never heard from them again.

Just like Posted Speed Limits, they are set arbitrarily low to create speeders. Road engineers design roads and set the recommendation of a Posted Speed Limit to be the 80% of drivers speed. The government can't survive without making more people paper criminals

Both NYS Law and Federal Guidelines require that an Amber Lights configuration be set according to the "actual" speeds driven by drivers approaching the light, not the Posted Speed Limit. There is nearly an 70% difference in the actual approach speeds with the road engineers design limits and roadway recommendations of the posted speed limit - the local governments then lower the Engineers recommendations not for safety but for increasing enforcement revenue generation.

The one thing that every single study has identified as reducing traffic accidents at intersections (and the least costly) is to increase Yellow Light times.

Again most of the drivers aren't breaking the law, but these intersections are targeted by politicians to generate revenue and they have an incentive to shorten the ambers so that they can create the crime; people get caught and pay a fine or get into an accident as a result of the shortened ambers.

Back in 2015, Newsday revealed that there is a ticket quota with Xerox that determines the locations of cameras, none of the cameras were ever set up for safety reasons... it's all about stealing money from the public
[https://www.newsday.com/red-light-cameras-draw-complaints-at-suffolk-hearing-1.11117317]

They acknowledging that the amber is shortened prior to installing the cameras, and that despite the rhetoric about safety, it's goal is just to raise revenue (still not one study to date has provided any evidence that these cameras do anything to increase safety), however, delayed green and lengthened amber up to the required traffic engineering standards do.

The statistics are in - evidenced that red light cameras CAUSE accidents while creating a revenue stream - They are not for safety but for the $$$.

2020 Red Light Revenue disastrous because of fewer drivers getting tickets.

Once the government has exhausted the revenue (theft) from one location they move the cameras to a new location to steal more at another lucrative location; but they leave the base so that they can bring the Cameras back later for more revenue/theft with little effort. These stumps now ending up with overgrown grass and are causing car damage to unsuspecting cars pulling over.

Ways to beat the Red Light Camera Ticket:

In Suffolk County:
The Suffolk County Employee who certifies the Red Light Tickets is named Mordicai Hay.

According to Newsday's Suffolk County Salaries website, his official title is "Clerk Typist" at an annual salary of $7,818 per year and was hired in 4/14/2014.

Suffolk County believes he is a qualified technician who can determine if you are guilty of a red light camera ticket by watching your video on the second floor of the Dennison Building. His title/function is a Clerk typist which apparently makes him more qualified than an engineer or even a police officer to watch your videos all day. So when you call the 800 number request that Mordicai Hay be present to explain to you how the camera system works, the calibration, the yellow light timings, etc. Demand a copy of the technician's certification before your hearing!!!

You have a right to face your accuser. DEFECTIVE CERTIFICATION:
Case must be dismissed as a matter of law:

I believe the yellow by law should be 3 seconds. Right on red is 5 seconds to be stopped.
