The problem is... Since the subject of 'alternative gambling' at racetracks was being discussed, I said that Yonkers and Aqueduct were opening up their slots and poker machines very soon to which you replied I was "wrong".
Fact is they are opening up with poker and slots or VLT's if you prefer to call them that and you just keep saying "they're not slots" and I think claiming that that Yonker and Aqueduct won't be opening since the only other thing you keep saying is "I'm wrong".
This argument reminds me of when I walked into a head shop to buy a pipe with a friend a few years ago and when my friend asked the counter person to see "that pot pipe", this counter person flipped out told us he didn't sell "pot pipes". So after that when I asked if he'd sell me that nice "tobacco pipe" he said "we don't sell pipes".
Anyway... You're the salesmen.

I said that NY would see the amount of tax dollars rolling in just on these machines and after that it was inevitable they'd just allow tables or full blown casino's. These machines are the proverbial "foot in the door". I said 2 or 3 years after the tracks opened and you said 5-10.... So I'm wrong because of a couple of years difference in our predictions?

The company and its partners, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, continue to await a decision from the Bureau of India Affairs (BIA) in regards to issuance of a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) related to the planned St. Regis Mohawk casino at Monticello. The company believes the BIA is proceeding with the normal course of review and will notify the Tribe when it has determined whether a FONSI can be issued.

empire resorts expects to receive final approval and a gaming license within 30 days.
gov. pataki has promised immediate consent as soon as this license is issued.
so barring any surprises from the BIA, construction could begin very very shortly.

Empire Resorts, based in Henderson, N.Y., wants to build and manage a casino in Monticello, N.Y., for the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. The $600 million casino would be built at the Monticello Racetrack, which Empire Resorts owns.
Empire Resorts' fortunes are so closely tied to proposed casino.
According to the New York Times, the Interior Department determined the casino wouldn't harm the environment.
The stock rose 7.5 percent Thursday to close at $8.43, and leaped an additional 20.9 percent in premarket trading Friday to $10.19. The stock's 52-week high is $8.83.

Casino Construction Begins In Monticello, NY !!
Although Gov. Spitzer has not given final consent yet, constuction began at the new Mohawk Indian Casino on Friday evening. Several hundred cement trucks were lined up to begin the foundation for an $ 800 million casino. Crews will be working around the clock.
Its finally here...after 10 years in planning!
It should be open in 15-18 months.

Seeker - I went thru the thread, hoping to find out some mongering information, instead I had to endure you and Ozzy fighting.
You are correct, video machines are not the same as slot machines.
I am not sure if at the big M - the machines work the same as the Indian Casino's in Florida. In Florida the machines are based upon the same principal as bingo. All the machines are linked together, the casino gets a fixed amount per bet, and the rest of the money is shared with all the players. This is considered legal because it is bingo, not casino gaming.
I am looking forward to that casino. I am up that way every summer. I work in a sleep away camp mid June to first week of Aug. My three kids go for free ($24,000 value) and I help out as needed (drive a sick to the hospital, pick up prescriptions, pick up a roll of stamps etc) I do almost nothing. It is a vacation. It has also became a family tradition.
The worse part for me is having nothing to do at night. The regular staff, have curfews and wake up early in the morning. There are some older senior staff, but for the most part they do not have much cash, and are not into the UG life.
When the new casino opens, I will be there every night. How I wish it would be open this summer!!!!
Now the Big M. My experience for the past two summers has been bad. I only saw one waitress, who I liked. I did not see any good looking single women. I did not go that often. The place is lame, but what can we expect when the State runs a casino!!!
We need some wise guys running the place. Great food, women...
