IP tracking

#21
Take it from someone that's in the IT business - it is near impossible to hide yourself if "they" really want to find you. Even with a proxy, there are still logs of the connections from your computer to the proxy site and the proxy site to the site you're looking at - not too hard to link them. It's all a matter of time/effort. A proxy site makes it hard for a private person (like the site you are visiting) to figure out where you are at in general but without info form the ISP, no private person can link you to an IP.

Using Verizon may show some address in another state, but Verizon knows what IP is attached to what user at that time and can be traced easily.

There is one absolute way to assure no one can find you on the internet. Cut the wire.

Side note

It isn't too long in the future when we all have one IPv6 numbers that serves as phone number, fax number, email accounts, computer ID, printer location, etc. We'll eventually be known by SS and IP numbers. (Your name will be optional!)
