Finding people using Facial Recognition and Social media accounts.

#1
Hey Guys. I just wanted to give you a warning. Just got extorted. Someone found my info. I have been careful and these photos are no where else. The person told me they ran it through a facial recognition photo search engine. They had my linkedin account, my wife's facebook etc etc.

Anyone know about software like this and what they do to prevent it? I took down all photos in the meantime.

Wow...scary stuff. I'm not on Linkedin or facebook (neither is the Mrs) but yikes!! Was extorted twice many years. Ended up sending $ on the first occasion (several hundred - less than 1k total) and called their bluff on the subsequent attempt (unrelated to the first instance).

How are you handling the situation??

Happened to me earlier this year. A profile from SA. Sent me my SOs Facebook and asked if I wanted them to tell her about my SA profile. I ignored it and blocked number. They contacted again and we did this a few times. I never interacted with the person. Just kept blocking them. Eventually they went away. Never got to the part where they asked for money. Was always a CA area code. They were poking around my LinkedIn too.

It was a CA number. They asked for $1 G. I got them to tell me significant information on how they did it in order to cover my tracks. I am heading to Vegas and reactivated my SA account for the trip. I decided it was worth paying for the hope this goes away. In the course of going back and forth, it seems like it easy enough for them to find their next victim, so I felt they would delete the information and move on. I let them know that if this ends here and I never hear about this again, I will let it die and pay them for the information they provided. But if I heard from them again and there was another ask for anything similar that I would report this to the FBI for extortion and let whatever happens happens on them sharing my information.

I found a facial recognition software and ran my pictures through it and boom. Found my linked in profile and a couple of magazines I was in. I signed up for the damn software and checked out some of the girls I am setting up meeting. Its scary stuff!!!!!

I will not put my face on SA again. Now that there is a service you can get for $25 a month, the barriers to entry for this type of thing is way too low now. This will become more common, so wanted to give you all a warning.

I am not am fairly technical and I have previously run my pictures through the reverse image search software out there and did not find hits. I have burner phones, set up on fake email accounts. I am fairly protected. Not from the police if they did a serious investigation, but from being stalked on the Inet. I need to thing about how to approach this with not showing my face in my hidden pictures.

That's scary shit! Hope it works out. I never put my picture on any of the SB websites. Ever!

In all the years I've been on SA I never once put up my photo. It was almost always no photo. The few times I did put up a photo, it was from a barber ad of a similar face and at that I cropped it to be from the nose down. Eventually SA told me it wasn't a real photo I suspect not through bot but from a SB complaint because I would not pay her fee or something silly like that. Over all the years I've only ever used 2 photos of myself to send to SB via text, and almost always reluctantly. Before my accounts were suspended I stopped that too except rarely since that's part of my vetting process too. Related to this but not particularly SA related is that I rarely even put my photo on a legit site. Many times once I exchanged numbers with a SB this only thing they wanted was a photo. I have one SB contacting me for about 4 years using different numbers wanting my photo. Yeah nothing wrong there wtf.

Despite all this I bet though that there is somewhat to find us all in seconds. Is this all talk, or could they prove it to you?

Oh man, hope you can get out with just the 1K expense. How did they respond to your counter?

Mods, is it allowed to post the recognitios software?

So you took down all photos you say; how did you get the photos of you removed from your wife's facebook postings (I assume family photos she posted that include you)?

BTW, once you start paying them IMHO, it will not stop so may want to come up with a story with your wife as to why you are on these sites (maybe you just do it for kicks but don't actually see the girls — sort of like guys who do catch and release fishing)

Good luck.

Can you share the name of that facial recognition software so we can check our pics? I have read in other forums that if caught just say someone lifted your photo off Linkedin
Seems reasonable - I've used other ppls photos tbh. Hey, the girls do that all the time too.

@genius - I took down all my SA photos. I don't need to take down my other photos if the criminals don't have my face as an input. They will scam so many new people because it easy to do now, that I fairly confident that rather than come back to me they will just find their next victim.

@MrJizz I don't want to break any rules on the board. If @Slinky Bender or one of the mods gives me the green light I will share the software.
Good advice on the pictures...I will say that, however my description is something she would not think possible for a fake to recreate and she would know its me. I may have to change that. Kinds stink as it has worked great for me.

This facial recognition stuff is scary. I just found some porn that one of the girls I see in NY was in years ago. Nothing pro, just some webcam stuff. It is a useful tool, but we are now in the age of AI. Less and less will be under the cover of darkness and anonymity.

I know a few people who won't use FB because of the tagging out of principle no bc they are doing something wrong.

As to software so you seem to indicate it'll review photos and video? And either way did it email you results or it was fast and live?

There are more advanced options which I have not signed up for and some I haven't used. It will find stills or thumbnails from vids. I don't believe it will look into videos. It is fast and live. You sometimes have to do some additional digging from there One girl who I have been speaking to for my trip I found her tik tok this way. She looked too good to be real, but she is. Also confirmed location.

I've taken all my photos off the site for now...have to see how this effects the response rate and also come up with a new approach.

Question tho, if a scammer fimds your identity and social media, couldn't one just deny any of their claims? What proof could they provide that you were actually on the site and it's not all one big scam? I use a texting app so all they can get is a phone number that can't be linked to me and some photos that anyone could get.

If they find your photos there is a good chance they can find your actual cell number. I used a texting app for SA but the scammer reached out to my cell, which I never give away.

And another reason (of many reasons) to get a low cost burner for cash updating minutes for cash as required.
If you are really paranoid (or just want to be super careful) when you buy either you wear sunglasses, headphones that cover your ears, baseball cap and a mask so your features are not distinguishable on the stores security recordings. Of course your regular cell and your burner are never "on" (or in a faraday bag or tin foil) when you are using the other (sounds like a nuisance but your regular phone should disabled for tracking anyway when you are out mongering so no big deal)

In my case they texted me on my actual cell phone. It wasn't hard in my case to get that once they had my name. I do have multiple burner phones and apps as well, They went from picture to name. From that point the rest is easy if you have access to a TLO or even Intelius.

2 questions:
How did they get your "actual" cell # to text you?
How is your name associated with your "actual" cell phone? (for example only my 1st name is associated with mine)

I guess maybe it depends on the wireless provider. I noticed with my real cell number that my first and last name shows up on people's caller ID.
I never set anything for that to happen or was asked if I would allow that. I know when I first got the account this wasn't the case.
I have Verizon.
