The two other severe (there are more that are less severe) Coronavirus besides 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) that you may have heard about in the recent past are MERS (from Saudi Arabia) and SARS (from China).

Traveling in Asian countries, I am watching the fear mounting, people walking around in WW2 German mustard gas masks. (not many but tons of surgical masks) And can you really trust the news of the death tolls and sickened from a Communist country news bureau that exaggerates and understates whimsically according to their current purposes? There is widespread panic in China corralling 35 million people in Wuhan.
And not to mention, the misfortunate western mongers in China are starting to complain, not about the virus itself but the fact that the government health board is closing down AMP's during the crisis. (blatant audacity) The lads might be forced into the inconvenience and expense of traveling to far-away distant provinces for attention. (And that expense will most definitely result in lower tipping)
But like all viruses including SARS and the Bubonic Plague (It still exists. It had a major breakout in India while I was there and I was quarantined in Kennedy Airport) of the middle ages wiping out half of Europe, they seem to rise and fall without rhyme or reason.
Corona seems linked to eating snake and bat soup as Bubonic was linked to rats, all of which are still culinary delights of China. Any of you guys consuming any of those protein sources should return to a more standard diet. The virus from the bats supposedly transferred to the carcasses of dogs, chickens, pigs, snakes, civets and others in the wet markets so common in China and then made their way into humans.

Schultz reports the Chinese virus was in fact an accidental release from a secret bioweapons lab near Wuhan.
The director of the lab covered up the release for over a week.
The virus is much more powerful than they originally thought.
His sources indicate already over 1 million have been infected and the Chinese government is in a crisis mode. Building emergency hospitals and quarantines major indicators.
Up to 5, 000 have already died.
The virus has also shown up in Chinese concentration camps. It was likely tested on concentration camp inmates.
Estimates are over 100 million will be infected in coming weeks. Central China will be put under a massive quarantine for up to 2 years.
The virus was being being developed for use against the US. The Chinese of course are blaming the US internally through rumors in social media.
This could be worse than 1918 flu pandemic which killed approx 30 million by a factor of 10.

I kinda raised an eyebrow when I read about the # of cases in China (not all that many ) and the fact that China quarantined a city of 11 million people in reponse. Say what — shutting down everything in a city of 11 million?

Looks like a new thread since it is not going away for a while. In the past 3 days, it is breaking news that the two bio-chemical factories are located in Wuhan, China. The Washington Times, New York Times, CNBC, South China Morning Post, Outlook India and others are all reporting on the new theory of origin.
(If substantiated, the bats and snakes theory can be exonerated and we can all return to our regular daily consumption of these delicious protein sources.)

Not sure what it means for the rest of the world yet but things are going to get a lot worse in China. A government official said that 5M people left Wuhan before the lockdown. Given that, a two week incubation period and the likelihood that people are contagious before showing symptoms, we should see a sharp spike in cases.
A short tour of the now closed Wuhan Wet Market. (supposed origin of the Corona virus) Not dissimilar from the thousands of other wet markets in Asia. Just really a memory of ancient life in modern times.
Ancient cultures would never be satisfied with meat slaughtered, preserved, packaged, frozen, sanitized and of unknown origin. They believed that the spirit, the qi in a fresh killed animal adds to their vitality and it is not just foodstuff and taste and protein.
Times have changed. But in the past to hunt and kill and eat a wild animal was a great event as that animal's will to survive would not make it easy for a hunter with spears. When they killed an animal every part was used and even the bones would finally be boiled for a great length of time until all the collagen and gelatinous material emerged and also reaping the benefits of the nutrient-rich marrow, the deepest part of the animals' structure.

Where are possibly-infected Wuhan people going outside China? Lots of places. But only about 1% are going to NY or LA (scroll down).
I saw about 1 in 20 Asian people wearing masks in Flushing yesterday. Some believed masks are selling out fast.
The top 5 cities have 5 - 8 times as many Wuhan people arriving as NY & LA. Outbreaks in these places may occur sooner or stronger...

IMHO, at this time, perhaps unless you are in a packed, elevator, subway car or bus - not walking on the street, this is ridiculous for corona virus as risk is very low here (now anyway) but for may make sense for flu, measles and other common viruses transmitted as an aerosol (in a packed, elevator, subway car or bus ).
