Burner Phones

How can I get an old number again or an old burner working again I bought the Tracfone card and can’t activate my old burner phone and now it seems they’ve might have even given my number away which I haven’t used since the pandemic began smh!?!? Help!
Most Prepaid accounts will cancel automatically after 120 days in Not Paid status when the account runs out of available funds.

Don't know for sure but certainly seems like you're SOL

As I only use my tracfone when I need to contact someone I want to see (usually once a week) and it is off when not using it for those specific calls, I usually don't know if it has expired on average for a couple of days.
I just get a new 90 day card and reload and they extend my. Never had a problem or extra fee because of this for the many years I've had it.
The extension period is 90 days from when I reload and not from when it expired.

How long after it expires do I lose my # — IDK

Thanks much appreciated I didn’t know how these burner accounts and numbers work exactly. I guess you live and you learn.

If you haven't used it since before the pandemmic you're prob shit out of luck, if you had an email account associated with it you can try to recover the account on the tracfone website. But it you haven't used it that long it's probably not worth the effort.

If it is just for managing your contacts with providers - you can
go with tons of off the shelf options.

Most are good enough in most cases to fend off scammers and filter
your contacts:

Tracfone
sim card from Amazon
Google Voice virtual number
find a Chinatown store selling phones

These are not truly private - they will leave a trail of some sort
one way or the other but will not usually be worth the effort for
someone to chase it.

A totally private tin-foil hat level solution gets much more complicated.

Any current reccomendations for a reliable burner phone and service? Thanks for any forthcoming suggestions
I strongly recommend getting a Helium Mobile number. You can get service added to a new or existing phone (second number via electronically issued eSIM) in minutes. Costs $15 a month and you can disable + get a new number trivially.

There are too many ways to do this affordably to justify not having a burner number if needed. I keep many.

Are the Walmart phones good I seen some for $40 at&t prepaid
A burner and minutes that will be perfectly adequate for mongering purposes will cost, per year, less that a single modest session with with women reviewed on UG.
I bought min at Target many years ago (I assume the recording cameras at checkout haven't kept customer video record that long.)

Wearing sunglasses and baseball cap, I buy my minutes for cash.

Haha - yes. I also Park further away because of outdoor security cameras. Lol. I'm paranoid. If the CIA or FBI wants to find you, there are all sorts of ways they can. But they aren't going to for a BJ in a hotel. Now, if the BJ queen ends up in the grass in Gilgo Beach or somewhere, LE might take an interest. I try not to overthink or I'll go nuts. Using the burner is a cheap and easy way to protect your identity in almost all of this hobby circumstances.

Let’s say you are in a relationship, where do you hide the phone?

Well seeing that its almost Easter, I am sure you could ask the Easter Bunny for some great hiding spots :)

Seriously, in past threads I have read in the trunk of your car in a gym bag with power turned off when not using it (I believe that was @genius) who mentioned that. Somewhere In your yard protected from elements, a shed, garage, in a show box with the phone tucked into the shoe, a briefcase if you carry one with a lock, even a small safe for your valuables and important documents. I would be wary to bring it inside if I lived with a SO, she finds that and you in for some trouble. If you do, erase all texts before you bring into the house and all call history.

I just use a Google Voice number linked to a junk email
If it looks like one of the old flip phones you had in the old days you keep it in your car in your emergency toolbox* for "emergency 911 calls or a call over Wi-Fi in case something happens to my iPhone". There's always Wi-Fi e.g., Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, etc.

*All of you guys keep a tool box in your car of course with some simple tools, extra fuses, folding shovel, flash light, emergency cash, duct tape, some wire to temporarily tie something together that comes loose, little air compressor (in case you pick up a nail while parked in Queens or somewhere else you shouldn't be — will get you where you need to be) and jumper cables (actually I have a combo lithium battery powered jumper cable/compressor/flashlight) and an old retired flip phone.

[Sarcasm] prison purse

Or you could do the out in the open, job gave a phone for a project or specific client. And it rotates (so it can disappear for a bit). I had a job that did this, we had a phone to handle a specific client/project and were only on call for x days out of y month; whomever was next on the call chain got it the next few days or week...

Or do the old junk drawer hide away, I still have some of our old phones that I keep in case out current super-duper new fancy $1000 one dies

Same here. Of course the anonymity is less, as your phone is connected to gvoice instance.

But unless your going full dark,
  • Turn off your primary phone, and put it on its own Faraday bag.
  • Go to a high density location, lots of phones; with the burner phone powered off and in Faraday bag. This puts separation from your "known" phone from your "anonymous" burner phone.
  • At the high denisty location take your burner phone out, try to avoid surveillance/security cameras and start it up
  • Do what you need to do.
  • When you leave the provider turn off and Faraday bag the burner.
  • Drive back to your "primary" phone last known location, or an entirely new location as far away from the burner phone location. Retrieve from it's own Faraday bag and power up. Hope the wife wasn't trying to get in touch with you...
Your phones being on and near to each other and traveling together, pretty much tells the cops that your at least acquainted with each other, if not the same person if the body goes LISK missing. This is something the Google Voice also keeps you pinned together in cell/gps pinging
