Why a fifth is now a fourth.........

Along time ago in a galaxy far far away..........

You could biy liquor by the quart.
You could also buy 4/5th's of a quart commonly known as a fifth.

Nowadays you buy liquor by the liter.
You can also buy 3/4 of a liter or 750ml.
This to me should be a fourth, yet go to any liquor store and ask for a fourth and they'll look at you like your from another planet.

Huh?

I knew a guinea was one extra shilling than a pound. And two six-pence to a shilling. But there were twenty shillings to a pound and not ten?

Why did I think there were ten?

When they switched over the money, didn't the old shilling become the 10p coin?
