Would you let a hooker just die, OD? Or help her?

"A review of emergency medical services data from Massachusetts found that when given naloxone, 93.5% of people survived their overdose. The research looked at more than 12,000 dosages administered between July 1, 2013 and December 31, 2015. A year after their overdose, 84.3% of those who had been given the reversal drug were still alive. "

So when administrated by professionals (EMS) almost 7% don't survive. And a year later of those who survive just over 15% are dead, presumably of another OD.

Note that this data is from 2013-2015 before the flooding of illegal drugs with fentanyl that is being seen today. And the Narcan was administered by pro's and not some "Narcan administerer” who serves as the “ designated driver, “
While this information is correct, if I am not mistaken, Narcan was not readily available to the general public back in 2013 -2015. In addition , when it did become available, the nasal inhaler blister pack contained 2 separate 2mg sprays

As the illicit drugs became more potent accompanied with Fentanyl, guidelines were changed- The Narcan blister packs are now distributed with 2 4mg doses—

EMTs I believe can give intramuscular injections and well as larger initial dosage of Narcan -

Depending on how long the person has been down, Narcan may not always be of help.

The best way to prevent an OD is to abstain completely-It’s not easy for some-

If you have the Narcan and find yourself in a situation that requires administration-
Call 911
Breathe
Administer
If your that worried about ramifications, think about the crowd you are associating with-
But maybe you just save a life

I don't understand the point you are making.
Naloxone HCL i.e. trade name NARCAN, was given by EMS to someone OD'ing. Even when administrated by professionals (as opposed to some "Narcan administerer” at a party) 7% didn't survive.

I was just adding to to information you provided -
Not criticizing whatsoever
( of the 7% that did not survive, the variable which can affect that number greatly is the time from OD to administration)

Call from the phone owned by the establishment anonymously
There seems to be some misunderstanding here about making a call to 911…
The NYS Good Samaritan law will protect one from liability or prosecution if you are in the presence of someone who has OD and trying to render help-

If though, you have supplied that person the drugs and they pass, you most certainly can be held criminally and civilly responsible—

( not giving legal advice here, just my understanding of circumstances)

This is true. I have had many people OD in front me. Never providers....but people I was chilling with. When you call 911 for an OD the cops come(usually 1 cop car) and ambulance. You let them in. The cops ask no questions. Emts will ask what they took. Emts do what they gotta do and take the person on the Gurney. They all leave and that's that. It's pretty simple. So if you see a provider ODing call the fucking 911. Even if you call and leave. Don't let that person die. I haven't had to to do this in like 8yrs but the law is still the same. No questions asked.

Thank you for your input

Perhaps this, and some of the other posts here will change the minds of some of the thick headed morons that feel differently

I was a piece of shit scumbag drug dealing junkie for half my life. I still am a scumbag, I just don't get high anymore lol. You can't just leave somebody to die like that. Even if they probably just do the same shit the next day and die. If your gonna just leave somebody to die that never did nothing bad to you. You need serious Psychiatric help. Idk even how that wouldn't haunt you for the rest of your life. Especially when your not going to get in an trouble. The cops aren't even gonna ask you your name......NOTHING.

Thanks bro. But I'm just addicted to escorts now. It's all the same. All for the adrenaline rush. Still trying to figure out which worst. Drug addiction or escort addiction. When I figure it out. I'll let you know. Lol
I think any reasonable minded person would know drug addiction is worse
But then again, anyone addicted to drugs is not of reasonable mind - ( their choice or not)

That was just a bit of a joke. But there is diffently some truth in there.

The rush you get is the same. The nervousness, anxiety, the knot in ur stomach, the excitement when ur on ur way to go meet a new provider. Is the same shit when ur hooked on drugs and ur on way to go get some drugs especially coke/Crack.

Pretty sure I know what I'm taking about. But it could be that I have a addictive mind.

If you where never a cold stone junkie. You would have know clue to what I am talking about. Which is ok.

For me this is a tricky question… would I save someone from ODing? Quick answer probably only because I don’t want them to die and then it come back that I was there and have police question me if my SO found out there would be a lot of questions I wouldn’t be prepared to answer.

other than that maybe not, in my mind these junkies are dead already. Often when I hear of a junkie od’d and dead in a way I’m happy for their families. A mom or dad of a junkie who know their kid is a junkie and has given up because they’ve tried everything, yet every night they worry is tonight the night they’re informed their child is dead. Once they od and die the families can go on without their worry.

now there are certainly a lot of variables that comes into play; what if this is their first etc. who knows a lot depends on the situation.

Mike,
Respecting your opinion here as you make a fairly reasonable point — Is LE going to come to your home .. probobly not, unless your were involved in selling or administering the drugs-You do strike me as one who would call 911 instead of leaving someone to die-

The terminology junkie is a harsh world and stigmatizes those suffering from addiction

The feeling that a parent has when their sibling passes from an OD should not be translated into happiness or relief knowing their child is not suffering any longer.

The endless worrying is only replaced with grief and sadness. The mom or dad or sibling can never really “move on”

I have had to use Narcan (Naloxone) on a real life friend before but not on a SW thank goodness... But if it happens I would goddam sure use the Naloxone on a SW. I could live with a few uncomfortable questions from the fuzz butt I could NOT live with myself knowing I could have squeezed one little plastic bottle to save someone's life but for selfish reasons chose not to. I keep it in an emergency bag right next to a bottle of baby aspirin.
