Phil Donahue, whose influential TV talk show aired for nearly 30 years, has died at age 88, according to a statement provided by Donahue's wife of 44 years, Marlo Thomas.

His talk show launched a television genre that made household names of Oprah Winfrey, Montel Williams, Ellen DeGeneres and many others.

Dubbed "the king of daytime talk," Donahue was the first to incorporate audience participation in a talk show, typically during a full hour with a single guest. The format set "The Phil Donahue Show" apart from other interview shows of the 1960s and made it a trendsetter in daytime television, where it was particularly popular with female audiences.

Also, I remember watching Marlo Thomas in That Girl, and she was a real hottie then! Can't believe she's 86 now. Time flies.
Phil put on a great show. Always respectful and intelligent. And, Marlo was certainly a looker. Thanks for the nice write-up.

Bestselling author Nelson DeMille, who grew up on Long Island and earned a Bronze Star in Vietnam before setting out on a writing career, has died.

He was born in New York City. His family moved to Long Island, where DeMille graduated from Elmont Memorial High School. He wrote 23 novels, 17 of which were bestsellers. All of his manuscripts were written in longhand, using No. 1 pencils and legal pads. His first major novel was "By the Rivers of Babylon," published in 1978.

His children said "The Gold Coast," a book DeMille wrote about the ultrarich on Long Island’s North Shore, was his favorite.

Loved his books. The Gold Coast and The Gate House were great. They were his take on The Great Gatsby. The Deserter was really good with a lot of laughs. And I really like John Corey the main character in most of his books.

Eugene "Mercury" Morris, one third of the immortal backfield of the only perfect team in NFL history, the 1972 Miami Dolphins, 77. RIP good sir.
Along with Larry Czonka and Jim Kick

They would establish Morris on the outside with sweeps then run a counter play where they would pull the guards and fake a sweep to Morris than have Czonka run a counter right up the middle and punish anyone who tried to tackle him

Didn't Czonka play for the Jets?
