Price Manipulation

This article in the NY Times' "Freakonomics" blog describes a study of behavioral price manipulation in arcade games (like the infamous "claw" game) in which the game is tweaked based on user behavior (read addiction to the game) in order to get the user to pay more and more for his/her pleasure.

I can't help but think there are applications to the hobby. (And, no, I'm not endorsing this behavior; I'm suggesting that such schemes are already going on.)
