Malayasian food question

Has anyone heard of Jilapia or, perhaps, Jilipia. It is a fish of some sort that I had today. Odd taste and even odder apperance. It was fan shaped with a very flexible skeleton that radiated out fan like. The meat was also unusual. It radiated out in strings along the skeleton.

I tried to google jilapia and got one reference about wild ducks in Pakistan.

From your description it sounds like skate.

Definitely not Tilapia. That's what I thought it would turn out to be when I ordered it, but absolutely not.

Does skate have a cartilagenous structure consisting of one large piece of cartilage? If so this wasn't skate. It's "bones" radiated out in long strips that were translucent with whiteish nodules spaced evenly along them.
