Identifty the owner of a phone number

Does anyone know how to find out the name of a person whose phone number shows up on your phone, whether the caller is a cell phone, home phone or business phone...without having to pay a service ? Thanks

I google the number first...if nothing pops up the pay sites will only tell you location and the service provider. Other than that I'm not sure such a free service exists.

Puffin is right. When I bought my "go phone" from cingular (now at&t) they asked me for my name and address. I was paying in cash (of course) and when I asked if my info was really necessary, the guy just shrugged and typed in john smith and the store's address. A reverse lookup on that number isn't going to do anyone much good. (Except me, of course.)
