HMB Supplement

My Doctor just told me about HMB for muscle building. I googled it and it looks like a must have. Has anyone tried it here and how do you like it? I'm off to Vitamin Shoppe now to buy it.

Very interesting, I had never heard of it until now.

Like you I Googled it and found it is recommended for the elderly to build muscle.

Let us know what you find at the Vitamin Shoppe.

Did your doctor recommended a daily dose?

He didn't recommend a daily dose, he just made me aware of it and that I should try it as he knows I'm a gym rat. Vitamin shoppe only had their own brand body tech. So I bought a small bottle, 120 capsules $22. Dosage on bottle is 4 capsules 3 times a day with meals.

That's a lot. 12 capsules a day.

I just linked another article that is about how it benefits older people lifting weights.

From both articles what I'm getting is that it helps more in not losing muscle, as opposed to gaining muscle, except in the case of you're just starting to lift.

So in your case if you are a gym rat then maybe he mentioned it because it would help you not break down as much after each session.

I know a bit about this stuff and I work out heavy with 30 min cardio warm up 4 days a week (alternating with shoulders, arms, traps with legs back, core) and 45 min strong cardio the other 3 days. At age 75 my goal is to slow down muscle loss and I have pretty much plateaued last few years with weights, push ups etc but have kept up decent muscle definition.

My 5K's are decreasing a bit each year and, as with everyone guy I know who are past their 40's, there is not much that can be done as all of this is to expected IMHO, as telomeres shorten every time a cell divides (there is a lot of division between birth and old age).

Just look at the formula for max heart rate as it is a direct function of age. BTw, it decrease not because of slower heart contractions but result of slowed relaxation (where the heart chamber fills back with blood. An example you can see is pinch your skin and see how long it takes to become smooth again - loss of elasticity.

Anyway, to make a long story short, the problem I have with the site you posted is this:
"When we think about HMB’s primary mechanism of action – inhibiting muscle protein breakdown and decreasing muscle damage – that makes sense. "

However, the mechanism for building muscle is not "decreasing muscle damage" but actually stressing the muscle fibers to cause muscle damage. Muscles don't get stronger the day you work out but the next day when the stressed and damaged muscle fibers from the workout repair and add some additional muscle in the process.

I'd like to see some studies (with placebo control groups compared to those taking HMB.)

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but if you want to make some muscle gains use small dose test. Doctors can prescribe it and some people say it helps a man stay healthy as well as the benefits of being able to go harder in the gym and increased muscle mass. "Oh and she'll like it too".

Except then you have to keep taking it because as soon as you do your balls shut down production. This is because the body sees you have enough in the system so it stops making it on its own.

Another problem is if you are prone to prostate cancer or have it and it hasn't been detected then it will feed it make it grow faster.

Both are potentially true. I haven't had a problem with shutting down Test production as I take small doses and periodically come off. Most of the shutdown is normaly from large doses or heavy roid cycles. Seen some real messes.

Just about anything that helps you build muscle as you get older touches test or HGH and is an antiinflamatory in some way.

Protien shakes don't cut it at 50+

Protein shakes at any age don't do anything but add calories if you are getting sufficient protein from your regular meals.

If your regular meals consist of high-quality whole foods like lean meats, fish, chicken, nuts, eggs, and legumes. you’re probably already reaching your protein needs. A protein shake is good if you can't regular food and would substitute for a meal.

note that the charts I see for protein requirements give grams per body weight but this is incorrect as should be grams per lean body weight — you do not need any protein to maintain body fat.

For some reason this error is on charts provided by those that just so happen to sell protein supplements (remember Warren Buffets saying "you don't ask a barber if he thinks you need a haircut").

All of these proteins shake companies have studies, but so does Pfizer (lol...just making light of this). I lifted very heavy when I was young and felt that certain proteins types like whey and other supplements like Creatine taken at strategic times did help. But I was more on the extreme side of working out then... trying to push my bench up from 450, pushing my 40 yard time to 4.7. Playing college ball naturally will make you try a lot. Perhaps it did help or maybe it was a placebo that I thought helped. Regardless, I did feel I made better improvements when on supplements. Now, I don't feel a difference except when taking small test doses. I would love to try some tiny HGH doses too, but much harder to find a doctor and they get very expensive.

I will tell you, the only proper way to boost T levels is to takenTRT. OTC supplements are not regulated and who really knows what in them.

My suggestion is find a TRT clinic that does telemedicine. They don’t take insurance but trying to qualify for TRT that you’re health insurance pays for is near impossible and you’re only getting the test, not the support drugs.

I use TRT and GHRP along with 2 injectable vitamin cocktails one daily each morning and one only on days I lift certain body parts.

I have lost over 150lbs while simultaneously putting on 50lbs of muscle in 3 years. Verified through body composition tests.

Mind sharing what that runs you monthly? I am interested to learn more about GHRT, but heard it can be very expensive! BTW, congrats on you weight loss and muscle gains!

Do you mind telling us how old you are or at least a five year range?
Because gains like that are also age dependent.

Let me ask you this, once you got off your cycle did you notice your balls shrunk at all?

Usually when guys take testosterone, especially if they are young and don't really need to, their bodies stop producing it when it senses an abundance in the blood stream.

I remember reading an article about Barry Bonds when he was being investigated and his white girlfriend testified that he couldn't get it up and that he had shrunken testicles.

So TRT with basic gonadal support and anti-estrogen runs roughly $550 for 2 months. If you use hcg for gonadal support instead it’s about $500/mo ….

I don’t use growth hormone. That’s way too dangerous with way too many side effects. GHRPs are different … little to no side effect and it boosts GH levels naturally instead of flooding your boy with synthetic GH. GHRPs are also less expensive.

Keep in mind you still have to put in the work. You have to eat clean, drink less and workout a lot.

Btw ….
My testicles are as big as ever and I certainly never have an issue getting up. I wake up with raging Morning wood every day and can cum two or three times and still stay pretty hard. My age starts with a 5 handle. My adventure this morning, the girl was just shocked that I was able to go the entire hour before pop one. We were drenched in sweat. I ended extending a half hour because I maintained a full erection even after a full orgasm. Second pop took 20 mins of focus (for me) and a super sloppy, aggressive, gagging DT bbbjcim. Even after that, she commented “time for him to sleep”, “too much cum” and “omg he’s still hard”. She felt like she needed to try to coax a 3rd in the shower but that wasn’t going to happen.
