Been there a few times when I owned a boat it is close to Linderhurst nice littlle relaxing spot to anchor Use to bring woman out there and have fun on certain days it is seculded.

My buddy who is coast guard and marine bureau, said it was people on a boat that shot some sort of propane tanks connected together.

Since the open pit gun range in Calverton no longer allows tannerite (it is a legal product) or other childish "explosive" like old propane tanks my guess is that some "kids" went about and wanted a place to play with it and not harm anyone. Thus the uninhabited island and probably some crappy kitchen appliance to hold the product. As a kid we used to shoot up tannerite out east all the time or kill a few old propane tanks.
