Do you "escort" tweet?

#1
In other words, if you're a provider, do you have a Twitter account and use it for your escorting business? And, similarly, if you're a client, do you follow escorts on Twitter and communicate via Twitter with them? Please tell us about your experiences.

That's what I thought, too. Then I realized a provider I knew was tweeting. And, when I started "following" her, I noticed that there were tons more providers in her "followers" list, as well as mongers (one I recognized from this board, in fact).

honestly, no. i have one separate account for advocacy of sex workers' rights, but it is not affiliated with my work or civilian persona at all. also, it is not a twitter. fake name, fake everything, and i don't write about my particular job or my personal life.

it just seems like a bad idea to blog/tweet openly about sex work. :/ i don't feel like being made an example of.

Lots of escorts and porn stars tweet - mostly nonsense, from what I've seen. A new trend in Eros Guide is for escorts to include Facebook pages and Twitter connections. Again, the social media is generally useless. Reviews on UG are much more worthwhile.

In some of the Tweets, you learn that many of these ladies lead very boring lives, contrary to what they would have your think.

Enjoy,

You are right Chels, my life is dull and the most adventurous and rebellious side to my life is my job and all that happens within that time I am taking to the grave. I mean do guys really want to know I went to farmers market yesterday, lol.

You don't really want your sex worker living a partying lifestyle that would make an interesting blog because it usually means boyfriend problems, drugs, mental problems, all these things will indirectly seep into your time with her. I think it's better to leave things to the imagination, much more fun then the realities of life.

I enjoy using twitter to keep in contact with several hobby friends.

I will not contribute to any drama, in my posts or replying to posts of others, on UG or off UG/backchannel. I will not "stir the pot", incite others to gang up on posters, providers, etc. I will do my best to ELIMINATE drama, rather than create it.

First of all, quite a few providers blog (I have a separate thread on UG somewhere about just this subject). Some are quite entertaining. The better blogs are either subject based, so each entry is like a short article on a different topic. Or they're story based, so each entry recounts an entertaining hobbying experience. The ones that are more "diary"-like are a bore (from my perspective, anyway).

Second, I see tweeting as quite separate from blogging. Sure, if it's handled in a "diary entry" format, there are similarities. But there are many other ways to use Twitter. For traveling providers, for example, it allows them to let clients know when they'll be visiting or if they're available. And, when Tweets are handled cleverly, they can give the further illusion of intimacy, which some clients crave. Poke around on Twitter and see how some are working with the medium —*it's interesting.

Perhaps. But I have to tell you, in marketing circles right now, social media marketing strategies are where an increasing number of businesses are putting significant dollars. The sense is that customers don't want to be told what a company's message is -- they want to control the message. So, if you're not engaging with the customer and creating a dialog, the fear among marketers is that you won't be taken seriously.

There are tons of ways to do this, of course. Simple emails back and forth, for example. (Or, participating in discussions on boards like this.) But, without "socializing" that aspect of your persona, it's not obvious to the consumer that you're open to a level of engagement they're becoming used to everywhere else.

It's been amazing to see just how fast marketers scramble to copy unanticipated success. Old Spice Guy is the greatest things since coupons and NBC is teaching people how to do scene by scene re-shoots. My fiance works in new media, so I'm kept abreast of much of the industry twitter. Still, a lot of this seems forced and the market seems to be incredibly sophisticated now. It's like we've hit the advertisers singularity: people become jaded by memes before marketers even become aware of them. I can't imagine how hard it's going to be to market to kids who grew up reading Something Awful and 4chan*.

* - A few months ago there was an online contest to see who would rep an insurance company. The /b/-tards decided that most of the front runners were vapid pretty girls. So they took it upon themselves to vote up what in their minds was the most absurd choice. Yesterday I saw her commercial on the TV at the gym.

Monk: your are absolutely correct with your observations about social media in marketing circles. My company tweets, has a blog, and actively uses Linked In. Whether or not, it is effective for the ladies of the biz, I'm not sure.

Em: I certainly hope you did not take my comments as a criticism (I don't think you did!). Most of us lead relatively dull lives much of the time. Hobbying may add a little spice!

Hope you are doing well,

Just: Imitation is not always the sincerest form of flattery. It has taken our firm a good solid year to find effective uses of the new media. It could be a marketing case study.

Jenna: we met at the *** Party in late July and you briefly mentioned your Twitter Account. Memo to self: follow Jenna.

However, I hope you will continue to post on this board as it needs more perceptive ladies.

Clearly tweeting works for you.

Enjoy,

Hey Chels,

I never take anything you write as criticism, you are a very thoughtful person. I agreed, I am one of the boring and proud of it. I have had enough drama in my working life I cannot control, I like my personal life uneventful but serene. I do agree that it is not a bad idea to use twitter for schedule updates especially if you are a traveling provider.

Hope you are well too :)

Thanks, Em. It reminds of the saying that can be applied to some people I know: "Slow moments in a dull life!" Hope you get a smile out of that!

Enjoy,
