How much is that Pussy in the Window
(My peep show days)
My absolute first “paid” experiences with sex workers came after my senior year in high school with peep show dancers at the old “Peep Land” and “Black Jack” peep show emporiums on 42st. I used to stop there with a bunch of my friends after a night of watching the Rangers or Knicks at the Garden or Charlie O’s when we got shut out. We used to get student discount cards for basketball and hockey games and managed to go at least once or twice a month or whenever one of our prearranged card games fell apart at the last minute. Years later when Peep Land was closed down under the Giuliani crackdown, I actually tried to buy their trademark mirrored eyeball sign to hang in my office apartment as a fond memory of my experience with my friends in our youth. I thought it would have made a great conversation piece when my old poker playing friends would stop by.
We used to stop at Bill’s Gyros which was right next door to the Black Jack just off the corner of seventh (I think there’s a Disney store there now). Sure there was “Athens Gyros” further down on seventh ave, and right across from the Garden, but this gave us an excuse to trek up to Times Square and check out the girls and some peep shows joints along the way, maybe buy a joint for the ride home.
What we all loved about the Black Jack much more so than Peep Land, and what made it our favorite place of all was that the windows actually rolled up and you could interact with the dancers. OK…. you could also grab a tit or two thru the window for an extra buck. But it had a circular peep area so we could all watch and talk to each other when we went in different booths at different locations around the circle. For a bunch of inebriated 17 and 18 year olds it was a party and the half.
