Casino Hosts

#1
Just wondering the best way to become associated with a host at any of the casinos I frequent. I haven't been visiting AC that much this past year, but years prior I was always good for about two or three trips a season. The reason I wasn't going as often this past year was mostly due to the lack of a room. Is there an easy way to get hooked up with a good host? How much money on average would I have to spend in a night or weekend to be offered comp rooms?

The best way is to have those important players cards. I play at Harrahs properties because my betting pattern gets me either discounted or totally free rooms. One night or weekend won't do it ( unless you win BIG ).

Unless you win big or spend big??
BOTH - If you win big, they want a chance of getting it back so they try to keep you on their property.

If you lose big - they can tell from your betting patterns and based upon that will provide inducements to get you to return.

It's a complicated formula, they look at the average wager for the table game and the number of hours you play. They monitor how much you win/lose - I've seen the floor manager question a dealer once someone has left the table on how much they dropped or took away with them. Always make sure when you dig into your pocket for more cash ( providing that you are on a losing streak ) that they 'note' this whichever they way they 'rate' you.

ace-the first thing you need to do, is get yourself a player card whereever you decide to go.
Just hand it in everytime you play, wherever, even the slots.
Penny slot players get room comps, sunday through thursdays, bigger players, will get weekends.
Once youve established yourself, in any wager pattern, on any table or slot, you may either wait till you checkout, ask the checkout person to check with a host to see if they will pick up any charges, sometimes maybe not the room, but if a room is 159 bucks, they will give it to you at a players rate which is generally around half. Other times, if youre a new player, and youre action was very limited, they will pick up a meal or two if you charged it in their hotel or casino.
After youve played once or twice, you can just call casino marketing usually, ask for a host, or ask the operator, since now most casino marketing operators will let you know immediately by your member number if youre entitled to anything. Hosts will usually only answer the phone if they know you, or youll have to sit and wait for a phone call, and that my friend may never happen, cause if they dont know you, they wont waste their time if your play is small.
Depositing money in the cage, (the casino cashier) is also a way to be recognized. Ofcourse, theyll want to see you pulling markers off that money, but what other reason would you do that anyway?

If youre a visitor to AC, mid week winter is the easiest time to get a room comped or players rate.
Tropicana is under new ownership, half the rooms are being renovated, and the place offers tons of rooms.
Im sure if you spend an afternoon playing there, at any wage, theyd offer you a free room or reduced players rate, not to mention free breakfast, and other comps.
They are very lenient with their comps, or so it seems to me.
Although I wont go there next trip, and actually pay a players rate in another hotel, Trop offers me as many nights as I want, as compared to other hotels that offer me only one night, and I pay reduced rate if I want more.
Trop offers free food, where I dont seem to be offered that at other hotels.
Trops tables are as good as anyone elses, but I cant speak for the poker area, cause Im not a poker player.
Get a card, thats where you start, record every second you play.
I will almost guarantee if you get a card, and register your play, within 3 weeks youll be getting mail already welcoming you to the casino and most likely a free room offer showing the casinos hospitality.(They want gamblers to fill their seats, if they have rooms available, they will give them away to anyone that shows even a slilght interest in gambling, no matter what wage that person plays)

I don't know why this just amazes me. I have obtained a card for every place that I play. Primarily Trop. I usually play anywhere from $300 - $500 in a day. Like everyone, sometimes I'm up and sometimes I'm down. Most recently I was playing $25-$75 hands of Blackjack and was up about $1,100 in a forty five minute run. I give my card everytime I sit. I do see them making the notes. I NEVER get called. I guess the moral of the story is to be proactive and take the first step by just plain out asking them. Unless I'm just naive and think I'm spending a significant amount and it isn't all that significant to them.

all casinos use different rating systems which are very similar to each other.
Whether you win 1100 or lose 1100 makes no difference to the pit bosses rating you.
They are interested in mainly average bets and hours put in.
If you hit 1100 and leave in 25 minutes(always seems much longer to winners), youre not going to get a strong rating, even if you began betting 25 dollar hands and pushed up to 75.
If you lose 300 in 12 hands, that ends in 6 minutes, do you walk also?
The average guest, or casino player that can expect to get most everything comped, at least when I was a big gambler, is the person who averages 4 hours a day, clocked time, when gambling in one casino.
At 4 hours per day, if youre a 25 dollar bettor, you will get rooms and all the food you want for free.
Its not easy to clock 4 hours a day if you do nothing but lose.
My wife is a nickel slot player.
She gets offers of free rooms every month, Trop offers 2 nights consecutive.
I never ask for free rooms when with my wife, I let her comps pay.
If I want a night that is totally sold out, and she cant get in, Ill call a casino host and give them my account number, and I usually get a room. Im not a big player, nor that frequent, but my action the 7 or 8 times I go each year, is enough to get me in when there are no rooms available to a call in reservation.

Thanks again for all the insight BMM, DND and JackT. Thats what I figured was the norm (about 4 hours playing). That is my normal time of playing. The $1,100 run was at 3am after clubbing and after feeling so lucky on a run like that I left when they decided to change the decks. According to their website, the trop is offering a poker card that is different from the player's card. As a welcome they're offering you a discounted room on weeknights (slight discount from the normal rate) and you have to play on the average four hours in the poker room, excluding tourneys. Looks like four is the magic number. I'm glad you guys confirmed what I was unsure of. Just didn't want to feel like an ass calling and asking for a comp when I wasn't really sure if I qualified based on how other people play.

you should never feel silly or like an ass to call and ask for things.
The casino wants to give you comps.
If you are going to be there, and are going to gamble anyway(I dont go to AC simply because they send my wife and me free room offers every week)
you should always call and ask if they can help you out with the room, food, the worst that will happen is they will say, sorry, not this time.
I was in Vegas, not that long ago, and I went primarily to just honkytonk around town and see the "new Vegas", since I wasnt there in a while.
We visited all the hotels, like real tourists, didnt play much, but the last 2 days, when age and common sense made us realize nothing has changed, only the names and it was just so much bigger, but a casino is a casino, so we decided to hold up in our hotel, and do a little gambling.
I didnt play all that much, but stuck to my regular betting habits.
After one day, I was contacted in my room by a casino host that informed me he was going to take care of anything I charged to the room since I arrived. (my food bills). It didnt amount to much more than 200 bucks, but I didnt ask, they just did it. It was nice touch, but shows that the casino is always monitoring your play, and it gets reviewed. I still get invitations from the host to visit them, to contact him, and hell hook me up with a room and food. They want to give it out, they love to comp people.
Ask, always ask if youre going to be there anyway, and after you play, jsut walk up to the pit boss and ask for a comp for dinner for two, if you played, he will most likely hook you up.

Since you/I am being rated. I tend to play at tables that are full - why? more players = less hands played per hour. Also, you can walk away from a table for a short time say 10-15 minutes - just make an excuse like you need to go to the bathroom or make a phone call. The floor manager doesn't want to stop/start clocking people just because of a break. As BMM mentioned, it is no big deal to ask for some sort of comp - it will at least make the floor manager 'notice you' and will cause him/her to check in on your play. This way you are no longer just a face in the crowd.

After my most recent trip to LV ( I stayed at Paris ), the deskclerk was 'surprised' at the room I was provided considering my rating/betting pattern. She then gave me her *****/phone and asked me to contact her before my next visit so that she would make sure I was provided a better room on my next visit.

All of the advice that BMM and DND is excellent and on the money... You definitely need to open your mouth if u want something.. If you don't ask, you won't get... One way to help get into the system is open up a line of credit. Draw upon it at the tables when you gamble...

Ultimately, remember that you'd rather win money than to be concerned about comps.....

Good Luck

Of course I'd rather win....I'm just so effin lazy when it comes to booking a room and paying full price. One of the reasons I haven't been down as much as I used to. I'm going to apply all of your advice!
