Android based phones on Verizon

Droid X is gonna be Verizons top phone for a while. It has an HDMI output and supports mifi. Can't get that on an iPhone.

I think the carriers have it in for the iPhone. Apple basically said fuck you we're gonna sell a millions of these phones and contracts thru ATT for a few years and cut you out of it. What they didn't count on was Google and HTC stealing Apples technology to produce Android. Now that Verizon has Android they're pushing the shit out of it. Every commercial is selling and advertising the Android app store more than everyone else combined. Verizon threw it's full support and bank behind Android... D-R-O-I-D! You've all heard the commercials. No way they're giving Apple an open door. Verizon is big enough to smile and tell Jobs... fuck you now.

But the 4G's are coming out later in the year for Verizon.

CDMA might be a hair better [added: then GSM] but to the avg poke there is no difference.
I'd have to disagree there.

CDMA is an older technology. You can't use voice and data on a CDMA system at the same time. HDSPA on GSM is faster than 3G on CDMA as well.

The only advantage to CDMA is that it might be better suited for upgrade to 4G than GSM. That could just be a matter of finding the right work-arounds.

CDMA is a more upgradeable technology. As they move to 4G and eventually 5G or whatever comes next... CDMA has more capabilities to expand. It's also more hacker proof than GSM.

Verizon is the biggest player in the field (by far) so the format they choose will be the format that stays. They're so big they got Google to back down and stop selling the Nexus One from their own store. Supposedly Verizon told Google they can load their Android OS on the millions of phones Verizon (the nations largest carrier) will soon sell, or they can sell none and just sell the Nexus thru their online Google store. Th internet rumor is that Verizon put the boot down on Motorola and HTC and said that dong business with the Google store meant not doing business with them. In May (about 3 months after it's launch) Google shut down their online store and halted sales of the Nexus. Verizons huge advertising blitz for the Droid and the Android market is giving Google and others a taste of what they're commercially capable of. After just a few months in the game Verizon phones control something like 70% of the Android market.

The Samsung Galaxy aka S9000... was just put on sale in the US thru TMobile called the "Vibrant". It's probably the best Android on the market.

Turns out Verizon not only locked up the Droid X (if not it would be the best phone on the market) but they locked out access to parts of the Android Market. You can't get a lot of apps that conflict with anything the VZ store sells. You're also locked from loading your own ring tones and wallpapers. Typical of Verizon but doing it to an Android is sacrilege since the whole idea behind Android was not to be an all controlling type like Apple. To make matters worse, if you attempt to hack the firmware in any way... the phone bricks (locks out all services, no incoming, text, data, and you can only dial 611/911).

Anyway... there's a petition in the Android Market to sign but it's directed at Motorola with no mention of Verizon. Both are at least equally culpable.
