Years ago I read some huge long history of the Lakota Sioux tribe of native Americans, and one of the things that stuck in my head was their "dating ritual". A guy would take the woman he was interested in down to the river, where they would strip, and he would smell (and I remember thinking at the time "and presumably taste") her to see if she was acceptable for marriage. I read it at the suggestion of a woman who claimed to be part Lakota. She smelled good.
