ALEXANDRIA, Ind. -- An Alexandria police officer charged with offering an 18-year-old woman money to have sex while he was on duty this summer has retired, RTV6 reported.

Officer Richard Santos, 54, who was put on administrative leave in September, retired last week. By retiring, the 25-year veteran of the Alexandria Police Department will keep his pension and health benefits.

The chief of Alexandria police had recommended to a panel that Santos be fired over the allegations. Santos was put on paid administrative leave in September and unpaid leave earlier this month.

Santos faces felony charges of promoting prostitution and official misconduct. If convicted, he could face a maximum prison sentence of 11 years.
