New Poker Room at Mohegan Sun

Has anyone been up to the new/ re-opened poker room at Mohegan? Curious to see if you like it more than Foxwoods.

Also, the last two times at Foxwoods I have noticed a huge drop in the number of players. Sit and goes take forever to fill up, you can get into 1-2 and 2-5 games without a wait, and only half the tables in the room are in use. Granted it is mid day, mid week but there is a noticeably drop off from last year. I heard that they layed off a bunch of dealers and floor personel as well.

I haven't been there, but I remember when they closed the old poker room at Mohegan. The official reason was that there wasn't enough poker action to support two poker rooms in CT.

The unofficial reason was they were only making $2 Million a month in the poker room. Using the space for slots upped the take to $10 Million.

I heard Mohegan closing their poker room wasn't entirely voluntary. There was some kind of malfeasance and the state closed it. However, I am still wondering if it is worth going to over Foxwoods.

I realize that. If you extrapolate how much the poker room alone at Mirage takes in daily, I'm sure you're looking at at least 1 million a day. So 2 mil a month for Mohegan is a drop in the bucket.
The last two times I was in Vegas, Super Bowl Sunday and the end of September, the poker rooms I saw seemed pretty dead, especially the one in the MGM Grand.

Being a decidedly low roller, I hit the 1/2 no limit tables, but left pretty quickly when table after table was mostly filled with locals who sat there like rocks picking off outsiders.

Like I said, this was a number of years ago. I know the casinos in AC are hurting. Haven't been to LV in a couple of years. Never been to the CT casinos. I'm sure gambling numbers are down all over the place.

I've never gone to the CT place, I'd have to bring my SO. For me, that would be like bringing my Mom to a strip club, awkward, annoying, unnecessarily expensive and could only be made worse if they like it.

As far as poker rooms in the Northeast go, the Borgata has a great one. They expanded it last year and moved it upstairs. That's my room of choice. I would like to check out Mohegan, heard from people I know that I wouldn't like Foxwoods.

fyi

Definitely the economy, but two poker rooms probably adding to competition. I am going up there tonite, but BJ is my game, but will peek in on the poker room to see what's up.

Mohegan announced a similar headcount reduction in May, mostly thru attrition. They also suspended construction on the $734 mln remaining construction if the Earth Expansion. Slot revenues from Sept also down.

(Can't figure out how to post a link from my smartphone, but google norwich bulletin and go to casino page for news).

Over the years I have become friendly with a few dealers and floor people. From what I heard many years ago, the poker room at Mohegan was closed because of drug trafficking and prostitution.

There is a provider up there I have been trying to see on my last few visits, will review if successful.

Speaking with some knowledge on the subject here
The original poker room (which I think became partially a slot room partially used for kidquest) was shut sdown after mgmt found out that certain employees and managers were 1)skimming of the top 2) taking payoffs and 3) rigging games (strategic placements (i.e. one power player plus three of his good friends would wind up occupying 4 of the 9 spots on high limittable) 4 players and the boss were all in on the action so to speak. Tourists had no idea the table was stacked for specific player.
I happen to know a few providers and I stay off site at an off the beat and path b&b inbetween both casinos which is not only provider friendly but also dog friendly.

I understand the Foxwoods recently announced they were laying off 700 employees. I onder how things are going for Mohegan Sun?
That's not the only thing for Foxwoods. They filed for bankrupcy. Rumor is that they're trying to get rid of the union. As for Mohegan Sun lay offs weren't necesary. Hundreds of employees have left for the casinos in Florida and hundreds more will be leaving in the next few months.
