Anyone know how to defeat it? I tried unchecking the box but I don't have administrator rights on the machine.
I'm not worried at history being recorded since I only view hobby sites via FirefoxPortable but the Site Advisor has blocked me from a few good ones.

Dont know if you can. I browsed the McAfee support FAQs & it seems that it has 2 parts. 1 part is hooked into the webbrowser via a plugin or addon toolbar thing. The other part is not hooked right into the web browser. It appears to be attached to the hostname/IP DNS resolver portion of the Windows OS TCP/IP stack. I think it works by looking at the URL/hostname/IP of the site you are trying to reach (DNS requests & responses) and filtering and rating them which leads to a possible block.

If this software indeed filters DNS lookups, it might not be possible to get around it. You could try to use different DNS servers but it still might lead to the same block.

One thing I was able to do, as an example; I couldn't get into BP Escorts, blocked. But I could get into Body Rubs with a warning. Once in Body Rubs I can use pulldown menu in the search to get to the escorts. The only bugaboo is if I try to enlarge a picture it shows the picture briefly then blocks the site.
Does that tell you anything?

who uses McAfee..worst POS software ever. Get a Free copy of Microsoft Security or Norton (they used to suck but it's the best in the market now)

Edit:didn't realize ur not the admin of the pc..sorry can't help you with this one. Never used McAfee and NEVER will.
