Help with Google Voice?

#21
It's possible to control which number appears on somebody's caller ID when calling from a GV account. Again, it depends on how your settings are configured.
I completely understand the reason why many of you need to protect yourself, there are unsavory people on both sides but there are a handful of established providers you earned the right to be past the point of cloak and dagger approach. I think GV is great option to contact fly by night establishments, especially ones I read that aren't respectful and abuse the privedge of having a contact number. The way I see it is if I need to use GV with someone or vice versa I shouldn't be dealing with them. All the GV inquiries I encounter never work out for me, they are just too irrationally nervous for me which is counterproductive to providing a relaxing experience, there has to be some sense of proportion while hobbying. My number shows up private, I have to unblock if I want to reveal my number so I'm not concerned about it showing up. My philosophy has always been like attracts like, if you are a nervous hobbyist then you will attract nervous providers.

I think a lot more people use Google Voice than you may think. Me for example. :)
You can though, if you don't want to reveal your identity you can easily get a excellent reference if you need one. You are also confident, considerate, sincere with no neurosis, speaking to you even for the first time is like speaking to a friend. There are guys who are using disposable numbers like GV with thier weird tone and nervous energy and for someone who cares about who she sees it's just not worth the cost for the potential trouble they might bring. These types of guys need to offer more if they want to see a reputable provider. There is a fine line between being nervous and being up to something and sucessful scheduling is a two way street.

I just think there are also guys with "weird tone and nervous energy" who use regular phones. :) But, I only know from my personal experience. If your experience is that callers who are using Google Voice to reach you are a higher percentage of weird than normal, then you have to go with what feels right to you.

They will know if you use a GV number as your call number with a provider who is email only because an automated voice says the goggle voice prescriber is not available state your name and we will try and find them. If a provider or agency posts a number which could also be a disposable number like GV and you actually get through on the first time no they will not know but if you leave the GV number on their VM and they call back and you don't answer they will know, it's really confusing. With all these new phone methods caller ID will become obsolete, it's gone back to pre-caller ID pay phone style days but without the pay phone. I have personally had difficulty receiving and calling through GV but I don't use a laptop and the sexting became annoying. I can see the temptation but it should be a two way street, I'm not their girlfriend. I thought it would be more convenient way to schedule guys I knew but it turned into a mess and caused uncomfortable moments ending connections that didn't have to happen. I think the less ways you can screw something up the better, keep things simple and straightforward.
You are talking about the default voicemail greeting on GV, you can change that to anything you what. You can change it to blank, so the person does not hear anything about google voice...or if you do not want your voice on the greeting, there are free sites that you can go to create a greeting like..'the number you are trying to reach is not available....please leave a message' you can make this greeting very generic to micmic the automatic greeting you will get from the carrier if the person does not pick..

Sometimes the google voice app is not best of friends, you can use another app call Talkatone, this app can be passcoded on your phone and u can switch the app ON when mongering and OFF when not.

Note that, your caller detail report with your carrier will show the actual number calling even after you delete the history on your phone...if your SO might have access to this in the future and go hurting by dialing numbers they do not recognize, they might unearth something....to solve this, you can set GV such that all incoming calls will reflect as if they are coming from your GV number...the only confusion with this is that, u ll not be able to screen ur calls, unless u look into the app because all incoming calls will display ur GV number...and the call detail report on your carrier will be you GV number and not that of the provider.

Hello Emily. It has been FAR too long and I have missed seeing your lovely self.

That said, it isn't simply fly by night providers and agencies the guys are protecting themselves from by using GV. It is the snooping of girl-friends and wives, who in all fairness probably have good reason to go snooping if their men are seeing escorts.

Regardless, if you set up GV right by using a regular, not mobile, browser to do so it can be set up to function like a regular phone; with appropriate incoming voicemail message, forwarding on or off, and a "do not disturb" function so that texts and VM get caught and not passed forward when it might be bad to receive them.

Wishing well and Happy Holidays to All [especially you]. :)

I recently got a Google Voice number but I'm not sure how it will help in this hobby. I understand that I can give someone my GV number as my phone number, and they dial it and it transfers the call to my cell phone (or whatever other phones I have it linked to). But is there a way where outgoing calls from my cell phone register on the receiving end as my GV number instead of my actual cell phone number?
Yes, install the GV app and use it to make calls.

Hey Thorn, it's definitely been too long, you are missed.

I totally understand all the reasons for GV but from my personal experience new guys who contact me from it always refuse to go through any type of screening. It's one thing to have a disposable email but a disposable number in addition is just a bit too much when contacting a provider who is known for discretion and caution. I think if a guy is that weary should not contact established providers. There is a large enough selection of places and providers that don't care who they invite over but there is a risk. These guys shouldn't be entitled the luxury of complete safety and privacy without giving modest transparency. I take into consideration that someone might be spying so I never leave a VM and my number shows up as private.

I do use GV for texting only, I never cared for texting but I guess it's necessary. There is something impersonal about it and could never replace a voice conversation.

Happy holidays to you too !!
