Some were talking about Amsterdam in the South America forum so I decided to repost my resonse in the appropriate forum.
Not like it used to be... I've been a few times. Always stay at the Krasnapolsky in Dam Square. A lil pricey but its definitely the best. Most central location with quick and easy access to the red light district. The prices you are quoting are long gone my friend. Those were the good old days. Since the conversion to the euro and the weakening of the dollar prices have at least doubled. Last I was there, 2003, some of the really hot red lighters were charging up to 100 Euros. Many were fifty and sixty... but the days of the pocket change hooker seem to be gone at least for the time being.
a little tip... I didn't indulge last time but most people dont think of the call girl circuit. From what I have seen it can be spectacular at not such crazy prices. The girls from Surinam are beautiful and they are all over amsterdam.
