Agreed. Miguel Andujar was signed by the Padres - 4 million/1 year. I know he may have burned his bridges, but the guy crushes left handers. I watched a lot of Reds games late last season and he absolutely raked and was impactful for the Reds to make it to the post season
Maybe they shy'd away because of his subpar defense?
IDK, they penny pinching, this guy they got from Oakland today can't hit a lick.
Infield depth piece I guess, so where does that leave Oswaldo? Not that he can hit either, because his bat is awful.

Watching Weathers last night and a few things I noticed, he throws hard, has good secondary pitches, works fast, and has a mound presence about him. Now I know he pitched to a mainly AA/AAA lineup but if, and this is a big if, he can stay healthy he might be a really nice find. He would be a dirty reliever out of the pen if he goes there when Cole and Rodon come back.

Why Grichuk? How much more can the Yankees say to Dominguez "we don't want you" They are messing him up. And Jones? Where does he fit in at this point? Both of these guys could have fetched us a few nice established players to fill some of the holes we have.

Stanton can't open a bag of chips but wants to play a full season?! I don't get it, are the Yankees and Stanton softening the coming blow that he will miss significant time?

The only knock on Weathers (David's son btw) is staying healthy. He has filthy stuff.

They are taking a flyer on Grichuk, minor league contract, to see if he can produce those numbers against lefties he did before last year. Dominguez doesn't hit lefties right now.

Jones doesn't have a spot because he needs a full year in AAA to prove he can cut down his K's otherwise he is basically Joey Gallo.

I agree 100% that they have mishandled The Martian. It didn't help that he missed almost a whole season with TJ surgery.

But they should have just put him in CF last year and let it play out. He has been the most mishandled prospect since Joba.
They are fine with giving Volpe three years so far but not Dominguez?

What's wrong with Stanton? I haven't read anything.

Stanton says he can play. Not a new injury. Just hasn’t really improved since last year. When he goes down the Martian should get those at bats … but will he?

Speaking of Joba, yes, incredible prospect.
yanks had the Number 1 and 2 prospects in baseball, with 1, Phil Hughes and 2 was Joba.
someone recently asked me about the Joba and the , bugs, Nats, I forgot what they are called. Playoff game. I think Torre should have pull the team off the field. He couldn’t pitch in that.

Yup, I remember that game.

Joba was a first round pick and the Yankees had two picks in the first round that year and took Ian Kennedy with the other. So they had three really good prospects coming up together Joba, Hughes and Kennedy. Interestingly Kennedy wound up having the longest career and making the most money, although he also had the shortest tenure with the Yankees.
They wound up trading him to Arizona in a three team deal that among others sent Cutis Grandson to the Yankees and Max Scherzer to the Tigers.

I really thought the Yanks were going to get more out of those three.
Hughes was great as Mariano 's set up man in 2009. He was a big piece of that team.
He was an All Star as a Starter the next year and had one other good year as a starter. But ultimately he gave up too many home runs as he was a fly ball pitcher, pitching in Yankee Stadium.

Kennedy pissed off management early on when he sulked about getting sent down after a bad outing. They purposely didn't call him up when the rosters expanded in September of 2009 and traded him that winter.

Joba was just so mishandled I just don't have the time to spell it all out.

But basically he was rushed to the major leagues his first year as a pro then they couldn't really send him back so they had no choice but to try to develop him as a starter at the ML level and they had those stupid innings limits.

Love all your takes in regards to my post. So I want to throw a few more things around and see what you and anyone else might think.

I get it about Jones, too much Joey Gallo, but he just hit his 3rd hr today and it was a bomb to dead center. At what point does he start too become another over clutched prospect that possibly fades. If he continues to rake this spring how do you send him down? Make a spot for him or trade him, don't let him rot in AAA. His power would be immense in Yankee Stadium.

I hate the way Dominguez is being treated, and I hear you abt him losing time to the tjs, but that wasn't his fault. He is also having a nice spring. Grichuk is a fringe type, not a young prospect like Dominguez, he makes no sense other than minor league depth piece to bring up in event of an injury. And you're SO right about them giving Volpe 3 years but not Dominguez, is it a little white privilege?

I think if these two have solid springs you have too package one with a pitching prospect and improve at SS or 3B. This kid Neto on Anaheim would be a perfect fit.

Regarding Joba, he was very mishandled but he handled it poorly imo. His ego fattened up as much as he did over time. He was never the same after that game against the Indians and the @lightweight the midgies were attacking him!
Hughes was a real disappointment he faded so bad, I never knew that about Kennedy, him sulking abt a demotion. Its ironic bc he had the most serviceable career of the three. But we got Granderson in return and he was a solid player fir a few years.

It's a long season and we will probably see both Jones and the Martian at some point. Injuries and slumps will play into it also.

Again, they don't want Dominguez playing once a week as a 4th outfielder that's why they'd rather have Grichuk in that role and have Dominguez playing every day in AAA

A relatively quiet spring. No new injuries and players getting ready for the season. Weathers had a great 1st start but two not so great starts after. Some writer named him the long shot winner of the Cy Young.
Thrilled Japan is out! I despise Ohtani and his stupid face! Let’s all keep our fingers crossed nobody gets hurt and we can start the season on a high note!

Dominguez and Jones have both had great springs, too bad neither can play 3B as McMahon continues to be a strikeout machine thats hitting .097

Jones and Dominguez value will never be higher than it is now. If you not going to play them why not trade them?

Even when the Mets let him up recently, I still thought he had great stuff. He has no pressure on him. He is a number 5 on perhaps the best rotation in baseball once Cole comes back, if not , at least top 3. Weathers just has to stay healthy and I think he will be really good.

Because Grisham only has a one year deal, Bellinger has opt outs and Judge and Stanton get hurt a lot.

Unless your trading for Skenes I'd stash them in the minors for another year.
Great points, love the take.
But what more do they have to both do. Jones hit 4 hrs and has 8 rbi this spring, Grisham is batting .133
Dominguez is hitting .333 with 3 hrs and 3 stolen bases.
That Grisham offer was so poorly thought out, awful!

I hope these guys don't turn into the next Anjujar, Frazier, Florial, Pereira, Peraza to name a few.

USA didn't play loose at all, they were way too buttoned up. They could not hit with RISP and overall struggled at the plate. Watching this team play reminded me of how the Yankees play in the post season. Home run, walk, or strikeout, no rallies or timely hitting.

Judge really struggles in the big spots, its very obvious. Regular season World Series Champ, real time big spot and he folds like a lawn chair. Its shame because he is so great in regular season and loved by the fans. He is really carving out a niche in regards to his career that he is soft when the stakes are high.
