2019 Kentucky Derby

@ Genius.........True, the betting public does contribute to making the breed/sport better, .
From now only when make a facetious post—as I did with my post about making the breed better—I will include this emoji:
..... if you know what your doing and looking at numbers the right way, there is some money to be made for some.
Oh my yes—there is some money to be made by some, just as there is money to be made by some at OTB and lotto. Hint: it's not the betting public, who end up with a fraction of the total handle, but the guys wearing suits and ties at OTB and lotto management and the guys who appoint them and the taxing agencies (IRS, NYS and, if applicable, NYC income tax agencies) that share in the winner's take but not the loses.

Anyway, the KD can be a fun event as long as you aren't betting the homestead on what you have figured out to be a sure thing after "if you know what you're doing and looking at numbers the right way."

I know it's different, but the trotters/pacers back in the 1970s/80s had to be one of the most corrupt sports of all time.
Indeed true. That's what drove 95% of the harness gamblers away.

These days, harness racing is subsidized by the casinos. Yonkers Raceway, recently purchased, may be history if MGM decides to do away with racing.

Harness racing is on life support.

This years Derby is wide open, it should be very interesting. I love the action and speed of the race, and if you know what your doing and looking at numbers the right way, there is some money to be made for some.
Great race - but with a 20 horse field, racing luck will most likely determine the outcome.

horse I am really paying close attention too is By My Standards. He was flying down the stretch at the Louisiana Derby and seemed to be getting faster as the race was closing, he definitely had more distance left in him.
I keep coming back to him and is a viable long shot. Will be using him today. Also using Improbable. I love the rider switch to Irad.

I am more surprised at Tacitus' current odds, 5-1 seems awfully low. Wood Winners usually don't win the derby, none since FunnyCide I think.
Good Luck!

This race was a joke. The best horse did not win. Maximum went wire to wire and lost! Old school, a horse in the lead has the right to any part of the track he wants. Lets face it was a muddy sloppy track and things happen, for this delayed outcome of 22 minutes lets chalk it up to another episode of online sports betting LOL.

Maximum Security was the best horse, but if you watch the head-on, he clearly impeded three horses bearing out at least four paths on the turn. Watch the head on versus the full view. Additionally, there were multiple jockey objections. It should not have taken the stewards 22 minutes, but then again it was the Derby. I've lost numerous wagers for far less infractions.

It's a brutal beat if you wagered on Maximum Security for sure.

I am old school, and to win a race like the Derby on a disqualification seems undeserving. IDK, I would feel almost embarrassed if I was the other stable. Country House ran an excellent race breaking from the 19th post. He ran hard, determined, and was completely overlooked by yours truly. He has the pedigree, so lets see if he is for real in the Preakness.

Maximum Security was wire to wire, along with War of Will until that occurrence. IDK, in the slop, with 19 horses full throttle, coming around that turn, its hard to make a call like that. I understand what Excitable Boy is saying, but its the derby, not an allowance race with 9 horses. Sometimes you have to let things play out naturally. Seems like things are so artificial and scripted these days.

Not the outcome I liked to see.

Mr. Wiggley

But what do I know I'm a bad guy

I don’t disagree that a huge race like the Derby shouldn’t be decided on a DQ and even the announcers said Max didn’t interfere with the eventual winner but with the inside horse.
Only guessing that’s why the stewards took so long

I thought War of Will lost all chance due to the incident. He seemed to have plenty of horse before having to pull up. We'll never know where he would have finished.

Two things bothered me though. 1 - Why didn't Gaffalione file an objection? He was most impacted by the interference. 2 - Why didn't the stewards post the inquiry immediately after the race? It took Jon Court, a Kentucky long time rider, to protest.

On to the Preakness where we'll see a group of new shooters.

If it was a Baffert horse it would have never happened. Terrible decision, and then the stewards won't even answer questions on their decision to DQ.

I agree with you on War of Will, he was gaining, like you said we will never know.

We will see if Country House is real
