Best Italian Restaurant in NYC (inspired by the "Italian Deli" thread)

I'm not giving up on "disinterested", either.
Once it's in the OED, it's a lost cause. I mean, if you're going to be a guardian of "official" English, there has to be a reference point and I'm not sure that you can do better than the OED.

Speaking of which, I think the OED might allow for three "alternatives" these days.

Amazingly, the world hasn't ended.

Interesting how a discussion about food ended up in one about language.
There was a time, when you could be reasonably certain that any given conversation would end up being about food, language, stereo equipment, or the particulars of mid-Atlantic American nobility*. Why some people refer to this as the high water mark for UG is baffling to me.

* - Admittedly, there may be observational bias here.

I know Carmine's is corporate tourist, but I have to say...
The first time I went there, one person ordered lasagna, one chicken parmigiana, one shrimp fra diavolo.
I controlled myself, thinking, "Are you people kidding? These are dishes that any pizzeria can make and they're palatable," but I said nothing.
Know what...each dish was spectacular.
And huge.
And moderately priced.
That's why the line is out the door during popular hours.

And...their pasta Bolognese shuts down that of Becco.

Like crown of lamb...in the words of the internet, OMG.

Like eggplant parmigiana? Try ten layers. Fantastic.

Like Saltimboca? Go to a real Italian restaurant.

pokler

Power Bottom
I'm in Little Italy every Sunday nite for my spaghetti and meatballs and then smoke a Cuban with my gangster friends. Lamela and Ilcortile are my go to places. Now you know where to find Pokler.
