I Phone Upgrade- Caution

#1
I just upgraded my I phone to the latest operating system - 17.2, I believe

There is a new feature in Message ( indicated by a little red bar in the message box which allows you to dictate a message ..

Very dangerous imo, as it can pick up a conversation and text to someone if you are not careful

Does anyone know how to disable this

TIA

Are there any 3rd party apps or maybe is voice control turned on?

I just did the 17.2 dev beta update and have the same behavior as before-
I can use text to speech to answer a message but have to click the microphone
icon in the keyboard to start the voice capture.

It shows a blue microphone in this mode when the mic is hot and capturing.

Yes- How can we disable this ?

This is controlled by voice dictation in the keyboard under settings/general.

You can disable dictation which will remove the microphone from the keyboard.

YouTube has a quick video that walks thru the steps:

I phone automatically upgraded to version 18 or so- I noticed a new icon entitled passwords - Upon further review and digging a little deeper into its capabilities I noticed it stored websites and passwords to UG and other related sites which I have not saved or visited in a long time.

Very easily deletable

A heads up to those whose phones can be used by others

It can get hard to keep track of - but I try to stay on Android as much as possible
for my burner phones. And on a clean Google account that is used nowhere else.

If a provider wants Facetime to validate - I keep an Iphone on a separate ICloud
account and phone number from the phone where I Facetime / Imessage anybody else.

FYI- I also saw that prior notes also disappeared. Have to dig into folders in order to retrieve them especially if your phone is not backed up in iCloud . My iCloud is full as probably a lot of others as no-one wants to pay for the extra storage.

Not to get too tin-foil hatty but another thing to watch out for
is GPS location tracking.

So say you are organized and keep all your stuff on a burner phone that
needs to be there but also happen to have your work/personal phone with you.

Your main phone may have GPS location services - even Google maps
keeps track of where you are unless you turn it off.

So your SO/Boss/Corporate HR may have access to where your main phone
has been. Most people don't get down to this level but will start looking
if given a reason.

So if you are supposed to be at a client meeting in Manhattan but somehow end up
in Flushing where you have no customers this may raise some flags.

You can turn GPS on/off but this is hard to manage, turn the phone off, or leave your main phone
somewhere else but it all depends on how far you want to go.
